Karol -- I'm the one who didn't think the rooms were wonderful, but thought the slides were great (see above). I'm really picky, so I saw all the flaws at the GW. However, I reiterate that I LOVED the big slide, and I'm sure your kids will love it too. When I go back to Maui, I will probably stay at the FS since it sounds like their rooms and service are better and I don't have kids. But if I ever have kids, I would definitely go to the GW. I was not satisfied with my room at the GW and the rip-off issue, but the slide definitely improved my overall impression of the place.

As for the raging debate over whether the GW is classy or tacky, IMO the GW squeaks by on the classy side, although it's an awfully close call. Definitely Disney-esque or Vegas-like as others have observed. Fantasyland.

Just got back from the GW. The room I had was a partial ocean view in the chapel wing. The room was larger than other places I have stayed at on the Islands. The bathroom was what made our room w/ a sunken tub and separate shower. If you have kids, this is the place to be. The pool area is better than anything in Vegas (alot like Disney.)My wife went to the Spa and said the Terme bath was great. I agree that it is pricey, and I feel you have more activities/fun in the Lahiana/Kanaapali area. But if your in Maui,I highly recommend staying at least 2 nights at the GW and the rest in West Maui.

We spent 9 glorious days at the 4Seasons in early May. Went to eat at GW and I felt overwhelmed! Very large and glitzy. The 4S is understated elegance at its best!! My son (age 10) loved it. They have a great kids camp. And they do fun things for the kids, like spell out their name in bath sponges and bring special goodies at check-in! Would love to go back someday.

"Understated?" How about BORING!!! While staying at the Grand I took a little trip over to the Four Seasons and I DID like the property as well, BUT the comparison between the two lobbies alone was amazing: The Grand is the one with the truly ELEGANT and OPULENT lobby, while the 4 Seasons lobby was one, big YAWN!! The Grand is NOT like Vegas. If you truly want tacky Vegas-like, then go to the Hilton Waikoloa on the Big Island! T A C K Y ! ! !

We just returned and stayed at the Renaissance and I would highly recommend it. The rooms were great, and the service fabulous. Much easier to negotiate than the GW where you have to park in huge parking deck, unless you use valet. You can easily park on your own at the renaissance. and with the entertainment card, $165.oo a night is just an incredible bargain. Again, I truly cannot recommend it enough1

Milos - why would you not use the valet? It's free!! If you are an overnight guest you pay to 'store' your car regardless of who parks it. Of course, I forgot, you might feel obligated to tip and that is an added expense.

we felt it easier to just come and go without dealing with valets. and yes, tipping 2-3 dollars each time is expected. As a matter of fact, lots and lots of tipping is expected in Maui!
