Romatic getaway near or in Cincinnati, Ohio
 

My husband and I are looking for a nice romatic weekend getaway in or near Cincinnati, Ohio in January. We prefer a room with a working fireplace or woodstove. A nice B and B or another type of interesting and nice lodging would be wonderful. Any suggestions?

Perfect North ski resort is just outside of Cincinnati in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. There are rentals with fireplaces, etc. but right now it's very warm - in the 50' and 60's.

I can't help too much but my daughter and husband live there and when we have gone to visit, a nice area is across the river in Covington, Kentucky. Then you are close to downtown Cincinnati too. Covington has a huge entertainment complex on the river with a wonderful aquarium, shops, restaurants, bars, I think a comedy club and movie complex. The buildings around that area look older and quaint so maybe there are some B & Bs in that area. If you go to that website where there is a registry for all the B&Bs in the country you could do a search. If I talk to my daughter in the next few days I will look for your thread again and tell you anymore that I learn. I know there are lots of good restaurants in the area, a few right on the river.

The Golden Lamb in Lebanon?

There are numerous state parks offering lodging/cottages etc. Cowan Lake, Hueston Woods, Shawnee State Park, east of Cincinnati.

The Hocking Hills area is also a wonderful place for a getaway. There are numerous b&b's and cottages there which have fireplaces.

I live in Cincinnati but I'm not really familiar w/any B&Bs in the area. There are some in Kentucky - I've stayed at the Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg and it's lovely, but at least 2 hours from Cincinnati. If you want something different (and I DO mean DIFFERENT) check out the Wildwood Inn in Florence, KY (only about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati). DH and I stayed there for a night for our one year anniversary (in the CAVE ROOM). Did I mention it is a theme hotel? You can sleep in an African Hut, Old Car, Cave, etc - I don't think they all have fireplaces but they do have jacuzzis in the room. Here is a link to their website: www.wildwood-inn.com. It's in the suburbs but you totally feel like you are in a world of your own once you enter your room, plus, as I mentioned, you are a short drive from downtown. Oh, I wouldn't recommend The Golden Lamb in Lebanon. It's a lovely town (dh grew up there) and the restaurant is quite historical, but the food is mediocre at best & it's more of a landmark then somewhere I'd stay. All the diners wander the Inn while they wait for a table and look and the rooms where various presidents/historical figures slept. We went on Mother's Day as it has a nice homey feel, but I wouldn't recommend staying there. It is definitely a restaraunt first and foremost. There are some lovely antique shops and a great ice cream parlor in the area if you venture up that way.

Thanks for clearing that up, snowrooster. It's been about 30 years for me since I've been to the Golden Lamb. That's why the question mark after my suggestion.

Patrick - No problem. I may be coming to you for advice shortly - my parents just purchased a condo in Naples (though they don't get occupancy until June). I'm sure I'll be down there sooner or later (they'll continue to live here in Ohio full time so the cond will be available for us to use whenever). Looking forward to checking out your neck of the woods. :-)
