Romantic Weekend Getaway
my fiance and i are getting married in manhattan in June and don't plan to take our honeymoon until the fall.... but we would like to take a few days and go stay in a romantic B and B, not too far (1-2 hrs) from the city...we'd like to be near the mountains, lakes, walking trails etc.....would appreciate any ideas
|
Isn't that why the Poconos were invented?
|
The honeymoon package places are way too awful for words (my assistant went to one - her husband's plan) and they left the next day). You could do better heading a couple of hours straight up the Hudson and there's a
lot to do within an hour or so by car. There's a whole listing at: http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/hudso...-new-york.html |
nycgal,
I would suggest Spring Lakes NJ or Cape May. Beautiful that time of year but then I see you like the mountains, trails etc. I like the Hudson Valley idea. There is also New Hope Pa, Peddlers Village, and Lambertville area on the NJ side. Many trails, B&Bs and fine restaurants. I think it is very romantic in that area. In New Hope there is a playhouse, plenty of shopping, a scenic train ride, and boat rides on the river. |
Take a look at Rhinebeck, NY, just north along the Hudson RIver. Beautiful town, lovely B&Bs, and a really excellent bookstore, which is about as high a cultural marking as I can think of these when they're a dying breed. By June the Rhinebeck Aerodrome may be up & running again where you can also see an airshow and even go for a ride in a small open cockpit plane.
|
The Poconos are like a bad newlywed camp, please go anyplace, but...How about the Hudson River Valley.
|
I cast my vote for Rhinebeck also.
|
hey guys thanks for the advise....i will do a bit of research on hudson valley, and the lamberton area of jersey..any specific B and B's that you guys really liked?

Rhinebeck:
Delamater House/Beekman Arms http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/new-y...amaterinn.html The Looking Glass Inn http://www.thelookingglassbandb.com/ And then just over the State line into the Berkshires, there are masses of B&Bs in Great Barrington and Lenox etc. |
A family member spent her honeymoon here last year and highly recommends it. They stayed in a suite. It's sounds like it may fit the bill -

I was also going to suggest the Berkshires, if you can add a few hours to your trip (about 3 from Manhattan). It's such a beautiful destination, with quaint little towns and fantastic arts events in the summer.
|
All these places assume you're driving. What about the Hamptons? June is not so crazy yet.
