Romantic SF Restaurant

We are visiting San Francisco in October and are looking for a romantic restaurant. Location and price are not an issue. Thanks!

fleur de lys on sutter. chef keller one of the best in sf and tables not close together like aqua. perfect noise level. heard nice things about elizabeth daniel. make reservation at least 1 1/2 months in advance.

From all I hear, Elisabeth Daniel is not the least bit romantic, but rather a cold, sterile ambience with great food. Fleur de Lys is a very romantic stting, though. I believe it has a web site you could search for. A notch or two down in food and also price, but also a romantic setting, is Cafe Majestic.

Thanks for the help! Sounds like Fleur de Lys is the place to go!!

We ate at Aqua, Gary Dankos and Acquerello on our latest trip to San Fran. We loved Gary Dankos. Thought it was better than the french laundry.

Does anyone know anything about Charles Nob Hill? I'm not sure if it qualifies as romantic, but it looks very nice.

For Brunch (weekends only?) or lunch, try the Garden Court Restaurant in the Palace Hotel. Beautiful room....huge marble columns, old light fixtures and a fabulous roof. This isn't a jeans/T-shirt place.

Afternoon tea at the Garden Court is lovely. I've heard very good things about Charles Nob Hill.

"Old Krakow" on West Portal. Reserve a window table.

Definitely try Forbes Island (www.forbesisland.com)near Fisherman's Wharf. I found out about it from a cab driver. It's the ultimate in romantic settings and the service is excellent. When you arrive on the island, you feel as though you've been transported into another world. If you eat in the dining room below, you can watch fish swim by through the portholes. The view from the Island is beautiful with the city lights and Alcatraz. The best pictures of the island are at http://www.forbesisland.com/parties.htm but they don't do the "island" justice.
You can even check out their menu in advance.

There's only one way to get to the restaurant, and that's by launch. The dock is just a short way up from the sea lions.

Thanks for all the help. Sounds like we'll have plenty of choices. Has anyone been to Julius'Castle? Saw it in the Fodor's Guide and sounds wonderful!

If you are really in love, even TGIFridays near Ghirardelli Sq would be romantic!

Ate at Masas and Aqua a couple of years ago. If you want something romantic do NOT go to Aqua. The place is LOUD and the tables are so close you can forget about any private conversation. Masas...on the other hand, elegent and subdued..food was wonderful. At at the White Barn in Kennebunkport in June and Masas blows it away.

RHM

For a very romantic evening, try Silks or the Fifth Floor. Make sure you reserve a booth in either place. Make your reservations well in advance.

My favorite is the Tonga room in the Fairmont hotel. The inside is a polinesian village, every 1/2 hour thunderstorm and rain, floating boat with a singer and a band, you can dance, feeling like you're on Hawaiian vacation. Just make sure to make reservations not earlier then 8 pm - this is when all the fun starts!
