Romantic Seafood restaurant in Boston
 

I would like the names of a few restaurants in Boston for a nice dinner with my DH and I while my in-laws watch our son.

Price doesn't matter. We just want seafood specialty.

My favorite in Back Bay is Skipjack's-- nice room, great food. It's a New England Seafood specialist.

For something a bit offbeat but still very nice, could I recommend Tapeo on Newbury Street? It's Spanish, with some tapas and a killer paella valenciana (which has shellfish and some fish along with the chicken). Great wine selection.

What is the price out of curiousity?

I'm thinking we got out of both places for $150 or less, two people, three courses, two glasses of wine each.

Oh wait, Tapeo involved a BOTTLE of wine. And crawling across the street to bed (Newbury Guest House)....

I know many won't agree, but I really like Legal Seafoods...hubby and I go there a few times a year...food and service is consistently good. Get a nice, small booth near the back...the veggie box w/scallops is great as are the wood grilled scallops and mahi mahi /cashwes and panko crumbs...enjoy!

I like both Skipjacks and Legal Seafood, but I think Turner Fisherise (in the Westin Hotel) might be quieter and more romantic. See their website: http://www.turnersboston.com/index.htm for a look at the menu. They, too, have very good seafood.

There are a few Legal Seafood Restaurants in Boston. I haven't been in the one at Park Square but it seems that the one at Copley Place is quieter than that at the Prudential Center.

Just my opinion, but the seafood restaurants in Boston--while very nice and upscale places--do not really fall into the "romantic" category....so you may have to decide which you prefer, the seafood or a romantic ambience.....Being that it is Boston, you will certainly find seafood offerings on the menus of restaurants that are in the more romantic category.

Great Bay in Kenmore Square

Unless you choose a steakhouse or ethnic restaurant you will find a preponderance of seafood on the menus of Boston restaurants. The true "seafood restaurants", e.g. Skipjack's or Legal Seafood, while offering good food, are not romantic and are unlikely to give you the ambience you are looking for. Since price doesn't matter you may want to look at Clio in the Eliot Hotel, Excelsior on Boylston Street, Spire in Nine Zero Hotel on Tremont Street and Radius on High Street. Great Bay in Kenmore Square is also a good suggestion although it's a bit noisier than the other places I've mentioned. Aujourd'hui in the Four Seasons Hotel is always a wonderful special destination restaurant but they have a new chef (great reviews so far) but as I haven't eaten there under the new chef I can't personally recommend it. Dinner at each of these restaurants with a reasonable bottle of wine will likely run at least $200.

I agree that seafood restaurants are not particularly romantic. Think bibs and lobster juice flying! I would recommend walking through the North End. On a nice night, leave your name at the place that looks most romantic and appealing then have a glass of wine or a cappucino while you are waiting. Have a stroll, wander after dinner, maybe a cannoli. Perfect.

The coziest of Legal Seafood is in Harvard Square. We were there for Valentine's day because we are seafood lovers and could have a booth to ourselves.

Here's another poster agreeing with Socialworker, Sharona and Shaz60. I would strongly recommend Clio at the Eliot Hotel in Back Bay among the others mentioned in Socialworker's post. If you want solid yankee cuisine go to Legals or Skipjack's or Turner fisheries. But for romance and a menu that includes fresh, well prepared fish and seafood you're much better off going to a tried and true fine restaurant especially since price doesn't matter.

Sorry-the restaurants that Sharona mentioned...those are the ones I was referring to.

You are right, Keshutton, I didn't mention any names in my post, but here is one. If price *really* does not matter, LeEspalier in the Back Bay is a lovely spot that occupies a converted 3 story town house and has beautifully appointed dining rooms. The food is wonderful and the chef uses many New England suppliers for his food, so there is always a great seafood choice on each course of the meal.

For sure, romantic dining is nearly impossible to find in Boston (where restaurants tend to be deafening when busy).

Nicer restaurants that are quiet in our experience: L'Espalier, Julien, Locke-Ober.
