Romantic Restaurants Kauai
We are looking for romantic restaurants in Kauai with great food and sunsets. We appreciate any suggestions.
|
I'm guessing the replies you will get most often will be The Beach House and Cafe Hanalei. North and South.

Well, it comes up a lot, but as we found out a few weeks ago, for good reason! We loved the Beach House (south shore near Poipu Beach). Got there right at 6pm and had reserved a sunset view table (although the row of booths right behind us also had views, you're just literally a step away from the lawn and ocean and breeze with the SV table) which was awesome, bathed in the cool air and the sky painted dramatically in technicolor. They have these enormous floor-to-ceiling sliding glass type doors that they open all the way so there's no walls between you and the outside. You step out onto a very pretty green lawn area with the ocean lapping at the shore and lots of tiki torches.
Giant tasty maitais and every morsel we had was delicious. Crabcake appetizers with fresh ginger that I portioned off to myself for utmost savoring, mashed potatoes with dried seaweed that didn't overwhelm but somehow managed to actually enhance the natural potato taste (kind of like MSG??), and both of our fish entrees were heavenly, well-prepared and juicy, with good veggies and awesome sauces. And the chocolate souffle was scary good. Although we got a kick out of our server (who was very attentive and helpful) telling us about the desserts and asking if we'd heard of souffles before. Definitely memorable, savory, and with some great photo ops! love roxy |
Nothing more romantic than a pupu during sunset at the Princeville outdoors and then moving into the Livingroom to share a burger or some ono sushi and some authentic hawaiin performance. Welcome home Roxy, hope you flew well and flew high! Rock on turn it on.

Thanks Gyppielou!
Upcoming in my trip report which I will god willing post this weekend: Birds in Paradise! And cross yr fingers for the aerial photos! love roxy |
My partner and I had a VERY romantic dinner at Tidepools at the Hyatt.
|
If you miss dinner at sunset or it's too cloudy for a good sunset you could always try Tidepools at the Hyatt for a really romantic setting. Try to get one of the tables on the edges of the restaurant where you are right on the pond.
|
I also say the Hyatt's Tidepools. Beautiful grounds as well as sunsets. Usually a great staff. The Beach House was our only disappointment in Kauai.
|
Have to agree that the Beach House has the most fantastic view of sunset. Unfortunately, the food is only average. The Tidepools is very romantic and the food is great, but no sunset view. Other restaurants with fabulous food, but not necessarily romantic (no ocean view) are Plantation Gardens, Roys, and Pacific Cafe.

6-pak of Kona Brew Co. Fire Rock Pale Ale, Grind's sandwiches, beach blanket and a sunset at Polihale. :-X

Gerry will send the pictures if that's what you mean. He gave us the wrong film and developed and sent pics on island time. Fun!!!! I'll send you my second copy views if it comes to that, but I know it won't! Soooooo excited to talk trikes! Sorry for invading doshobos! |
Gyppielou,
No, I have the photos developed, I just have to scan them and get them online. They're beautiful! love roxy |
so will you be flying with Armin in Hana next trip out?!!!!!!!!
|
I'm with you Kal. A beach blanket and sunset at Polihale. Will I have to bring a blanket all the way from Tampa. Seems it would take up 1/2 my suitcase. And where can we get some wine/cheese/crackers etc on our way to Polihale?
|
Not to be redundant but Tidepools. We had dinner there right after getting married. We sat right at the water. Indeed, no sunset view but it is lovely and feels so wonderful.
|
Tidepools is the best. Ate there THREE times!
Cafe Hanalei is second mainly because of the gorgeous setting (better than Beach House to me by far). The food was very good but not as good as Tidepools. Beach House did have the closest, most open view of the water at sunset. But the sun on your face was quite hot, it was crowded and the food was just ok - IMO. |
Thanks to all for your suggestions. We will definately to the beach blanket at Polihale. Any suggestions on good take out near by?
|
Make sure you have reservations well in advance for the Beach House. We had four days in Kauai and called as soon as we arrived but they did not have room for us. (we were shortsighted in retrospect I guess) I agree with everyone else though, Tidepools was really cool.
|
Beach House accepted my reservation 30 days in advance.

Nancy and 2hobs,
You can stop at any of the grocery stores and get cheese/wine and cut them yourselves to save some dough. When we go this trip, we may just stop at Grind's Cafe in Eleeleeeeeee and get some "to go" stuff. There are some other nice places to stop along the route in Hanapepe, Waimea...Maybe stop at Waimea Brew Co and get one of their ahi wraps? Stop at "Da Booze Shop" in Waimea for beer/wine? We usually take a smallish, collapsable "ice bag". Easy to carry. Good for carrying out any addtl trash too. One of these days we'll figger' out how to take a Brick Oven pie out there! |
