Romantic Restaurants in San Francisco

Hey Guys,
My boyfriend and I will be celebrating our anniversary on our trip to San Francisco. Any suggestions for nice restaurants. I don't want cheesey places, just somewhere nice where we can hear ourselves talk, and have some good food. Views would be great though. Thanks!!!

Boulevard has great food and atmosphre and has views of bay bridge, etc... Pricey though. Slanted Door in the Ferry Bldg. is a Vietnamese restaurant that looks out on the water. It is famed for its food, but to be honest, I was there a few weeks ago and thought the food was mediocre. Not so quiet either, but full water view. Greens in the marina is a vegetarian with water view -- but you have to like vegetarian and it's not so romantic as just good solid earthy food. For a great neighborhood restaurant -- no view, but great all around otherwise, Firefly in Noe Valley.

AVOID Hawthorne Lane like the plague ... pricey, bad food, rude service and management ... your evening there would become quite unromantic very fast.

I really like all the restaurants on Belden Place (it's an alleyway in the financial district). B44 was especially memorable. I think it's just what you have in mind.

Here are two very nice restaurants you should consider:

Silks located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and The Fifth Floor in the Hotel Palomar. Great food and quiet atmosphere.

Look up the reviews for Quince on this board. It's not a "view" restaurant, but it is in a very atmospheric neighborhood.

I always think 1550 Hyde is romantic - the Hyde St. cable car goes by right outside and the neighborhood is very much postcard-perfect S.F.

I just made a reservation for an anniversary couple at La Suite, which is down on Brannan near the foot of the Bay Bridge. A little loud and brassy, but glamourous and French enough for anyone. I've seen many a couple sharing a towering fruits de mer assortment (feeding each other oysters, no less) and sipping glasses of bubbly while exchanging meaningful glances and conversation.

Avoid because of the overwhelming noise factor: Lulu, Chez Papa. Food is good but the clangour will kill you.

If really want quiet, lovely atmosphere, great food and gracious service, I would go with Silks, Fleur de Lys, or The Fifth Floor. We did our last anniversary at Silks. We had a wonderful private table by ourselves. It really was a perfect, romantic evening.

As someone already posted, Quince is a lovely and romantic restuarant although not with a view. It gets my vote.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I was thinking of a restaurant with a view, and quiet enough where you can hear yourselves talk, not a pin drop. Preferably Italian, American, Seafood, etc. With Asian and other foods, I am limited unfortunately. What do you think of Equinox? A friend said it was very nice, but a bit pricey? Again, guys thanks for the tips!

Haven't been there for a few years but the Carnelian Room offers a spectacular view...50+ stories up. Food was spectacular and not that pricey. Hopefully it hasn't changed because I'm taking my wife there later this summer.

Hi JimF, the Carnelian Room is being remodeled. I don't know when it is due to open up again to the public. Think the only thing that is available now is private banquet rooms. But hopefully they will be reopened by the time you come to SF.
