Romantic restaurants in Kauai

We'll be on Kauai for Valentines Day and are looking for a romantic restaurant. Any suggestions? Do you think a dinner cruise would be too tacky?

You might investigate A Pacific Cafe in Kapa'a on the east side. Its culinary renown is worldwide. No view, but likely the best food and service on the island.

But if you are looking for a view, most would probably suggest The Beach House.

Might also looking into a "dinner on the beach". Not cheap mind you but don't know if you can get more romantic. Was supposed to do one last Valentine's Day on Maui but got rained out. Maybe others out there have experienced and can offer their opinion.

Doug ... Dinner on the beach? Is this a service offered through a restarant or are you speaking of outdoor dining?

Doug Jan 16th, 2004 09:34 AM

It's a private dinner right on the beach with your own personal chef.

Here's a link to it (Kauai's at the bottom):

Also, a recommendation if you do choose to do this: have a back-up plan (i.e., a reservation someplace else) in case it rains!

Try some of the restaurants at at the Princeville. LaCascata is awesome-we didn't even have reservations and got a great window table. Cafe Hanalei is really great for the view too. The Living Room is fun - you can get your own couch to sit and enjoy drinks.

Private dinner on the beach is also a service provided by the Princeville Hotel -- and I think the Hyatt (Po`ipu) does it also. But these are waaaaaaay pricey.

The 3 restaurants mentioned all have great food and service, but if it's romance you seek, the Princeville Hotel (either La Cascata or Cafe Hanalei on the terrace) give you sunset, ocean views, _plus_ those spectacular mountains and Hanalei Bay.

Dinner at Gaylord's with a carriage ride after (weather permitting).

Most romantic location for Valentine's dinner on Kauai is the Beach House in Poipu area, hands down. A Pacific Cafe is great food, but, unfortunately, the location is in a shopping mall. Not very romantic. Save it for another occasion. Beach house is the only restaurant that sits right on the water. You definitely have to make reservations for Valentine's Day and as I recall they have a special Valentine's menu. Ask for the first seating at sundown. You will not be disapointed with this restaurant's location. Food is very good as well. A Pacific Cafe's food may be a bit above Beach House, but what it lacks in location makes it a second in my opinion if you want that romantic beachfront location. Go Beach House.

I agree with Brenda re her views on The Beach House and A Pacific Cafe. We travel to Kauai annually and have found the food at The Beach House to be uneven. We've had exeptional meals and very mediocre meals re service and quality of food. A Pacific Cafe is more dependable, however, its location is deplorable if you're looking for mood or romantic feel. Depending on where you are staying, the views from the Princeville Hotel as well as the Hanalei Bay Resort are exceptional - better than The Beach House, IMHO, but then, we're Bali Hai/Hanalei Bay view junkies.

A dinner cruise would not be my choice. Kauai's weather in February can be undependable and we've had a few sunset cruises over the years be less than stellar with rain and winds and just hoping for it to be over.

Enjoy - we leave for the Garden Isle on February 19 and never tire of its enormous beauty.

klqkauai,
I'll be on Kauai the month of February, until the 26th. Can't wait. I am chomping at the bit by now.......

I agree that the Beach House has a beautiful atmosphere and location. But I did find that the food wasn't totally awesome. When we were in Kauai last September our fav place was Tidepools at the Hyatt. Cafe Hanalei was really good with wonderful views too.

Just about every hotel offers dinner on the beach. Be warned that it can cost around $400 for 2 people though. And it looked rather windy for the people that I saw doing it.

We ate twice at the Beach House and both meals were great. Go for it if you are in the Poipu area.

I'll you the truth, the Beach House and Pacific are great but for romantic you cannot beat the Tidpools in the Hyatt Regency. Yes,I know its at a hotel but if you can get a table by the pond the views are tremendous...great romantic atmosphere.
