Romantic restaurant in NYC

Help. First trip to NYC in October, will have 3 days in city prior to Bermuda cruise. 10/11 is hubby's b-day, we have tix to Mamma Mia for that night but are wondering about a good spot for dinner. Romantic, and not outrageously expensive. He likes mostly Italian, Asian and vegetarian food (no French or really heavy food). Staying at Iroquios Hotel, on W 45th. Any ideas? Also thanks for all who responded to Sal's post, great ideas there too!!!

"Outrageously expensive" is a relative term. What is the most you want to spend for the dinner?

would prefer to spend less than $100 for dinner/2 glasses wine/dessert.

Just had a wonderful experience at TAO (E 58 btwn Park & Madison Ave). The atmosphere is very romantic, trendy, sexy, and surreal. They serve Pan-Asian cuisine and it's not the most authentic but in most "nice" NYC restaurants, you are paying mostly for the ambience. In this case, it was worth it!

Buffy,

I went to TAO back in March, I wouldn't describe it as a romantic place. It has more of a dance club atmosphere. Very funky, trendy place. Thought the food was o.k.
