Romantic quick escapes from Philly?
 

What are some romantic places that are a short plane ride or not too grueling car ride from Philadelphia, good for a mature couple who want to take a last-minute escape at various times during the year for 2-3 days? Important: not tacky or cheesy, but not stuffy or dressy either, not a lot of kids, noise, loud parties or boozers. Good healthy food is important, also a gym or fitness facilities nearby. (Are we asking too much?) Thanks for any interesting suggestions.

You don't mention whether you're looking for a hotel/resort, a town, or a place in the country, so it's hard to know where to start. However, we're not hotel or resort people, we prefer informality and privacy, and we like to browse nooks & crannies, so for long week-ends we sometimes head to Bucks county, north of New Hope, and stay in any of a number of excellent inns on or near River Road, and then poke around the area, including New Hope, Lambertville and Doylestown (it's got some excellent museums), or we head south to Annapolis or St. Michaels and do the same thing. I'd imagine you'd be able to locate fitness facilities everywhere but St. Michael's.

Bermuda is a short plane ride and you can find places there which meet your criteria.

How about Quebec City? Almost like a mini trip to France.

I love all these ideas. I didn't specify town or beach because I'm open to any & all suggestions. Of course we're partial to lying on a beach, but I want to expand our options. These are great.
