romantic place 2-3 hours from San Francisco

Everyone,
My girlfriend lives in San Francisco and I want to go there to visit her for a long weekend. Basically drive to some really romantic spot 2-3 hours away on friday night and just spend some quality time together.
Worst luck I dont know the area so I hope someone out there could help me.
A bungalow or cottage with a spa or jacuzzi inside it or on a veranda would be nice.
I dont mind either beach or mountain location.

Any thoughts? Something really nice. ( with a web page I could check out would be great)

hmmm if it happens to be near wineries then that could be cool as well.

Basically I want something that when I show her the web site she cannt refuse :-)

Thanks for your time,
Mike

I would pick Mendocino or Carmel.

Check out St. Helena or Calistoga. These are great little cities (although not as little as they used to be) with many bed & breakfasts & spas. I took a glider trip in Calistoga once that was so much fun.

Point Reyes has some inns that are very nice, and it's a reasonable drive from SF. Mendocino is a long drive each way, as Highway 1 is slow going.

Mendocino is more than 2-3 hours each way. If you are drawn to the wine country, then somewhere like Sonoma Mission Inn, which is spa-oriented, or somewhere in the Napa Valley where you can do the mud baths in Calistoga, go wine-tasting, and dine divinely. Sorry I am not up on the latest Napa Valley hotels, but Auberge du Soleil is lovely.

The Sonoma Mission Inn is outstanding! www.sonomamissioninn.com

I also really like the Indian Springs Resort, www.indidanspringscalistoga.com There are little bungalows here and the heated Olympic pool is lucious! Enjoy! ***kim***

Tickle Pink Inn, Carmel Highlands

I'll second that suggestion for Tickle Pink Inn! While we were there, a guy was inquiring about the Inn for an upcoming honeymoon spot. It turned out that we live in the same town.

Tickle Pink is very romantic with lots of little special touches to make your stay memorable. ***kim*** :)
