Romantic Lodging in Florida Keys
I'm looking to find a romantic hotel or bed & breakfast on the beach in the Florida Keys. I'll be taking my fiance there for her birthday. Thanks so much!
Little Palm Island
Little Palm Island is one of the best
Little Palm Island is wonderful but expensive ($1000 a day). Requesting "the beach" is difficult in the keys. Consider the Moorings in Islamorada, or if you want to go down to Key West, try the Marquesa Hotel or the Heron House.
Moorings is the most romantic spot in the keys. Affordable, but books up quickly. Morada Bay dining is similarly romantic.

La Mer in Key West

Little Palm is by the far the most romantic place with a beach. (Great restaurant, too.) They have their own island, in fact. Which leads me to add: It's a bit of a hassle to get back and forth (they have a boat that ferries you), but if you're staying for more than a couple of nights I find it a little TOO secluded.
Have fun. The Keys are a magical place.

My wife an I are staying at the Marquesa next weekend. If you wish, I will post when we get back
All these fellas recommending Little Palm...as if they could afford the place themselves!

That resort is for the Kennedy's and the like...don't blow all your money there. Plenty of intimate, upscale choices in Keys, and you won't be sweating it when the credit card bills arrive...

...and I'll be at the Heron House next weekend with my wife. I'll give you a report when we return as well.
Heron House is great!!!!!! Little Palm is also great but VERY, VERY expensive.
Try Kona Kai in Key Largo. My husband and I have went there 3 times. It has been on the home and garden channel a couple of times. It is owned by Ronnie and Joe Harris. They are wonderful hosts. I would try to get the breadfruit suit as it has a view, all their suites are great. It has tropical gardens, great man made beach, with plenty of hammocks and a wonderful pool and hot tub, the last time we were there manitees were out at the pier and we were petting them and one guest swan with them. They have a web site KONAKai.com I believe

I make frequent trips to the Keys and find Little Palm Island is getting far too pretentious following its rediscovered fame. We had reservations for Valentine's Day this year, but cancelled when informed of a 50% rate increase for the day. We moved to the Ocean Key and got a suite with views of both sunrise and sunset!!

I find Heron House and the Marquesa to be adequate for the "middle tier" vacationer, but neither can provide amenities which I seek in a luxury resort. Incidentally, neither is close to the water. The staff at the Heron tends to be snooty, and act put upon when special requests are made.(Additional towels after getting drenched in a downpour.)

People rave about the Galleon, but I found it to be similar in look and feel to public housing.

Private houses through a concierge service (we use keywestkey.com)is the way we're going now. We avoid the bargain hunters and AAA, AARP, and Gov rate tourists that way.

Enjoy!

Jerry should go elsewhere with that attitude. To call The Heron House or the Marquesa adequate for the "middle tier" vacationer is beyond belief.
I guess Jerry's post makes me darn proud to be 'middle tier'.
Ignore Jerry. He sounds like one of those nasty people that appear on the Keys questions from time to time.
My guess is that Jerry has never been any of the places he mentions.
The Marquesa Hotel and The Heron House are both beautiful, top notch places to stay. They are not on a beach but only a short walk or bike ride from one. The are not middle tier places in the least.
Well there Jerry, you seem to be quite the snooty traveler yourself. I suppose you just fly in to KW on your own private jet and have your sherpa carry you to your room in the Ivory Tower???

Maybe the oxygen is too thin for you up there?
Although I really like both the Marquesa and The Heron House, you people are nuts condemning Jerry. Isn't he allowed to have his own opinion? It's his opinion you idiots.
