romantic lake tahoe

For Christmas, where is the most upscale romantic place to stay? We want to ski and gamble.
Thanks

Maybe the Hyatt on the North Shore?

As far as serious gambling goes, the only consideration would be south shore. The major casinos all have ski packages, with shuttle service to Heavenly Valley slopes. So if you like the casino style, that's your best bet. There are many more skiing options available, but they are all north shore oriented, and farther away from the gambling. Romantic? That can be the top of the ritz, or a hay loft. South shore has it all. One caveat - some Decembers have not been all that great snow wise. The upper slopes at Heavenly are a good bet though.

We stayed at Cesears last winter (S. Tahoe) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. While nice, I would not necessarily call it upscale (IMHO) We also stayed in a Condo at North Star (N. Tahoe) and really enjoyed it as well. FYI- most of the major casinos are in S. Tahoe.

We stayed at Caesars in August and didn't care for it. Very crowded and small casino on different levels, the tower rooms were quite a hike from the lobby, the fellow at Reception kept callings us "you guys" even tho' I immediately handed him a piece of paper with our names, confirmation number, along with our credit card. It was a disappointment, let me tell you.
Across the street from Caesars is the Horizon (both are on Highway 50) which has rooms overlooking that beautiful Lake..should be gorgeous with snow. I plan to stay there next time so I have its website which I'm sharing with you:

http://www.horizoncasino.com/

As you will see, they have a variety of packages. Naturally, their prices are more between 12/21 and 12/31 but they all will be.

For rooms with views, Harveys deluxe rooms are the best. Their standard rooms do not overlok the lake. The Hyatt at Incline has finished a major renovation so it is nice too. But you stressed romantic - There are scores of condos and cabins for rent in the Tahoe basin. They would seem more "romantic" to me since some are rignt on the lake and have fireplaces etc. You might also consider Squaw Valley - the rentals are VERY upscale and it is more like a Alpine resort than a gambling mecca - but you'd still be within a reasonable drive of the action.

If the snow is good (not always by December) either North or South shore would be convenient since there are world class ski resorts at both ends.
