romantic hotels in downtown buffalo and niagara falls

I am looking for a romantic hotel in downtown Buffalo (one night) and Niagra Falls (two nights), probably on the Canadian side, but I could be persuaded otherwise. I am not interested in anything kitschy.

In Buffalo the best place to stay is The Mansion on Delaware. If it's booked try Hotel @ the Lafayette. If you want romantic don't stay in Niagara Falls, stay down the road at Niagara on the Lake. There are a number of good hotels including Harbour House hotel, Oban Inn and Prince of Wales. If you choose to stay in Niagara Falls stay on the Canadian side.

I agree. Stay at the Prince of Wales in Niagara on the Lake.
If you MUST stay nearer to the falls, stay on the Canadian side.
But stay in Niagara on the Lake.

There is a hotel on the Canadian side which used to be a Sheraton - not sure if it still is. The rooms facing the falls have floor to ceiling picture windows and the rooms have faux fireplaces. Romantic - not really - but better than most of the usual suspect there. (Free breakfast was worth what you paid for it.)

Thank you, all!

KathyK.. if you have any restaurant sections please send. Again looking for something romantic; not necessarily fancy, but intimate.

The Prince of Wales looks great. Are there other options that are equivalent but more affordable?

Niagara on the Lake is lovely and the Prince of Wales is the loveliest. But there are other places to stay -

There are wineries nearby too if you are interested.

Where did you decide to stay? If you are staying in downtown buffalo for a night for dinner I would suggest left bank or trattoria aroma.. Very good food, reasonable prices. If you want high end go to tempo or hutches.

We stayed at Prince of Wales and found it to be fine, but really nothing special after leaving the lobby areas. Take a look at some of the b&bs around the wine trail on the Canadian side near Niagara on the Lake. There's a great culinary institute with public restaurant at Niagara on the Lake. It's a touristy town but very picturesque.

In Buffalo: The Mansion on Delaware Avenue is really the best place to stay in Buffalo.

We really like Embasey Suites on the Canadian side of the Falls. You can get a king room overlooking the falls with a jacuzzi . Wine when the Falls are lit, I think, is pretty romantic.
