Romantic Holiday - Monterey to Wine Country

My fiance and I will be married on the beach in Monterey on June 27th, my birthday.

We are flying from Phil into SF on the 26th, thought we'd stay at an airport hotel since we don't arrive until 8pm, and get a fresh start in the morning.

We plan on renting a car and driving 2 hours to Monterey.

My queries are - any great lodging suggestions around $200 per night. We plan on 3 nights in the area, Monterey/Carmel and then we'll drive to wine country for 4 nights.

Thanks to all of you ahead of time for making the time to offer suggestions.

In Carmel you might try the Tickle Pink ( I know the name is weird but it's really nice) or Highlands Inn. $200 a night should be ok for those places but it will be close. If you wanted to drive south to Big Sur the Ventana Inn is really romantic. In Monterey you might try the Monterey Plaza. Another really nice place is the Green Gables in Pacific Grove. It's a b&b right on the ocean. Congrats on the wedding!

Ventana Inn does look romantic. Any opinion on the Post Ranch Inn?

Both the Ventana & The Highland's Inn are over $200/night. We have stayed at the Highland's twice and loved it both times. Get an oceanview, jacuzzi room, it is heaven on earth!
I just booked an oceanview room at the Plaza in Monterey for $225/night, they do have Cannery Row view rooms starting at $165/night which I thought was a good deal.

I'd try to go for The Highland's Inn or Tickle Pink, but from what I remember from their website, Tickle Pink is also over $200/night. Congratulations and have a great trip! Let us know what you decide. ***kim***

gemjab: You asked about the Post Ranch Inn. The Post Ranch Inn is the most amazing place in the world! It blows your $200 a night budget out of the water, but if I were on my honeymoon, this is where I would stay regardless of price. It is small, quiet and the "rooms" are very comfortable. Instant relaxation. We have stayed in the Butterfly rooms which don't have a view of the Pacific and thought they were great. I have also stayed at the Monterey Plaza in a bay view room and it was nice. I have also stayed at the Tickle Pink and thought the rooms were good and the views were wonderful. There is no restaurant at the Tickle Pink, but you can walk down the hill to eat at the Hyatt Highlands Inn.
