What side to sit on plane to view islands on landing?

I'm flying from Los Angeles to Honolulu and want to know which side to sit on to view the islands when approaching hawaii. Currently I'm booked on the left side. Is that right?

They land according to the winds, so sometimes the left is the right side and sometimes you'll be left out on the right.

seriously, the left side is usually the better side for a view.

Okay -- I've wondered this a long time -- does the left side mean the left looking FROM the cockpit to the back of the plane or looking TOWARD the cockpit? Enquiring minds want to know!

Good question! The left side I'm referring to is looking TOWARD the cockpit if your facing the front of the plane.

For the people that concurred to sit on left side, you mean left side if your facing TOWARD the cockpit/front of plane.

If you sit on the left side (facing forward) and you are approaching from the east and the plane lands toward the west the only view you may get is of the ocean.

OTOH if the plane circles around so that it lands toward the east, THEN you'll get a view of the island.

Icuy is correct that the landings will depend on the wind direction.

We just flew to Honolulu in March. We were on the left side of the plane and when we landed, that was the land side. We had an awesome view of Pearl Harbor as we approached the airport!

Personally, I prefer the INSIDE.

Seriously, depends on wind conditions.................so a coin flip on how they land. Generally, left facing pilot is OK.

If you prefer inside, wouldn't you be outside if you were facing the pilot?

Roman, you're a good sport. I've found that it doesn't matter where you sit because Murphy's Law always applies - the harder you try to get a seat with a view, the more it will rain.

I know the winds play a large part in how they approach, but I can honestly say in about 20 trips to Honolulu, the view was on the left side only 2 of the 20 trips. I always sit on the right side based on those experiences!

If you sit on the left you will get a good view The Big Island, Maui, and Molokai on the way to Honolulu.

Absolutely right - you will see the islands as you approach Honolulu if you are sitting on the left. What I meant by the view was having Oahu on the right as you approach the airport from Diamond Head to Waikiki. It depends on what you want to see, but if you've never been to Oahu, I think the right side is a great view.
