You would get a lot more responses if you specified a location, or are you willing to fly anywhere?

I am not sure where you live, but there is a wonderful, romantic Inn - in Spring Lake, New Jersey. The Sea Crest by the Sea, right on the water. It is a victorian style inn, no kids allowed!! So, it definitely caters to romance. They have a homemade breakfast every morning and tea/cookies in the afternoon. If the weather permits, you can go for a walk, ride bikes, beach, etc. That area of the shore is pretty quiet, but Atlantic City is not too far away if you are feeling lucky... We really enjoyed our stay here, so maybe it will meet your travel needs.

Sorry I left out one of the main ingredients, where?,
I'm interested in NY,MASS,MAINE OR VERMONT,I would like to keep it to 2-3 hours drive time.
Thanks Marilyn.
bill

That is an interesting puzzle. Two to three hours driving time to NY, MA, ME or VT. I am not certain if I can solve it. I would suggest that you indicate where you live how many miles you want to travel from home.

You mention Maine as a possibility. We stayed in York Harbor,ME (just over the New Hampshire/Maine border.) It's a small charming historic coastal town. We stayed at the Stage Neck Inn - a AAA 4star hotel right on the water. They have a beach, outdoor pool, indoor pool with a great jacuzzi, a work out room and a great breakfast buffet (not included in the room price.) There is a nice lawn area overlooking cliffs and the ocean where you can lay on lounge chairs and enjoy the view. We loved our stay there and the town and area. The Nubble lighthouse is in York and is a beautiful, very picturesque area. There was also a charming looking B & B just 1/4 mile up the road from Stage Neck Inn called the York Harbor Inn which looked very nice. We ate in their restaurant which was very good. It's not right on the water, but I understand some rooms have ocean views. If I had gone just with my husband (our 2 very young kids & mother-in-law joined us) I would have found it very romantic.

I really loved the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid, Ny.

We stayed a weekend at the Harborlight Inn in Marblehead Mass some year ago. They have just one jacuzzi suite, but its a lovely room. Fireplace, antiques, and a giant bathroom with a two person jacuzzi tub. There are some nice shops and restaurants in town.

I agree with the suggestion for the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid -- It fits all your criteria!

Several excellent choices: The Wauwinet Inn on Nantucket-you'll be pampered, excellent restaurant, fun island and out of season. The Inn at Castle Hill in Newport RI (stay in the units on the water not the main inn). Another fun place and romantic and off season (no crowds). Also the Charlotte Inn in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard fits all of the criteria of romance etc.
Like the other responders it's hard to advise not knowing where you are coming from. The Vineyard and Nantucket require a ferry ride (or flight). You don't need a car on Nantucket so could fly or leave your car at the ferry in Hyannis (much cheaper than taking it over)
I always enjoy going to Kennebunkport in May. You might want to check out The Maine Stay Inn & Cottages. They have several romantic cottages with fireplaces and jacuzzi's. They have a web site at www.mainestayinn.com.
