Romantic Dining in Kansas City KS?
 

I have 3 days in Kansas City KS (August) to spend with long lost love. Looking for a romantic restaurant to reunite. Private booths/table, good food, moderate to expensive, music for dancing, dressy but not black tie. As many locations and descriptions as you care to recommend.

The net has several good info spots

For a romantic place to eat, the best place is the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. Try the Plaza III, Fedora's or the Grill at the Ritz-Carlton. Other nice restaurants are the American, Metropolis and Jaspers. Less expensive restaurants include The Grand Street Cafe and Michael Forbes.

First I hope you are staying on the Missouri side. There is Kansas City, KS but not at all romantic. When most people say the are from Kansas City they mean greater Kansas City area including the Johnson County suburban area. You probably want to stay on the Plaza which is where a previous writer said to eat. If you can get a room at the B&B Southmoreland On The Plaza (816-531-7979) you will not regret it. Very beautifully done and near the art gallery and the Plaza (also a lovely place and the first shopping district in the US. I'd pass on Jaspers. The American I beautiful at night inside with a fair view of Crowne Center (you really only want a night view anyway). The American has so,e round booths very cozy but not sexy private. The best food if you are willing to spend is Cafe
Allegro which is on what we call which is on the 39th street corridor with other small restaurants some pleasant walking. It is not as luxurious and swank as the American but very atmospheric brick walls, low lighting. The American can be something of a sowner at times because is is not always very busy. If you can't get a room at Southmoreland stay at the Ritz on the plaza and you should ask for a room facing the creek and up high. Grand Street is always busy , good food (don't necessarily take them up on the most exotic suggestions unless it REALLY sound good to you. If it were me I'd pick Allegro or Grand Street then go walk around the plaza or take a ride in a horse and buggy around the plaza. Lemos are pretty cheap in K.C. and that can be pretty romantic too. Go for a walk in Loose Park just south of the Plaza and feed the swans.

Me again. The view from the top of the Ritz Carleton is very very nice and the restaurant is lovely. I havn't eaten there in a while but the atmosphere is very nice and if you are sans auto the plaza is just across the creek. I would for sure go up there for a drink and sit by the windows in the lounge and see the plaza view.

Allegro is a good choice.

McCormick & Schmick's on the Plaza is very nice. Lovely booths that can be closed off with luxurious drapery. MS has a wonderful stained glass domed ceiling. While it is a chain, it is very nice with excellent food, featuring seafood. I love the almost raw ahi tuna. Reservations are needed quite a while ahead, especially for a booth.

All the ones Craig Meegan stated above are wonderful and I would also recomend them. There is one more I would like to add to the list and its is also on the Plaza. It's called Frondizis. I believe I spelled that right. Its an Italian resturant owned by the same people that own Jaspers. It has the most wonderful italian food and a wine list that was rated very highly by Wine Spectator for I believe two years.
