Romantic bed & breakfast in San Francisco
I am planning to surprise my wife with a romantic weekend getaway to San Francisco for Valentines day weekend '98. Any suggestions for a moderately priced ($100-$160/room, but elegant B&B- possibly with a fireplace or other amenities? Also any suggestion for dinner on Valentines Day?
I need to redeem myself after this past years disaster when I was on call on Valentine's Day and then got stuck working late the next day and missed our dinner reservation (our first Valentine's together after marriage- needless to say I still here about it!). |
Try the Hotel Monaco. It's in your price range, the location is great, and the hotel itself is a treat. If you're inclined, have room service. We went for our anniversary, and the dinner from room service was really very good. Much better than expected. The restaurant attached to the hotel is very good, too. Another idea is the Hotel Diva. It's a modern looking place, but comfortable. It may be slightly cheaper. Of course, there are the hotels such as the Hyatt Regency, with its atrium, or the Mark Hopkins, St. Francis, et cetera. They are a bit out of my price range. Have fun!

Try the Seal Cove Inn in Moss Beach, California. Lovely rooms with fireplaces, amenities, beautiful setting, and should be within your budget. The inn is approximately 30 minutes from San Francisco but you can still see the sights in SF, enjoy the Inn, and even venture down to Monterrey and Carmel. Their phone number is (415) 728-7325. I've stayed there several times and love the people. In addition, the beach is within walking distance and you can see the seals and other sealife. For a romantic dinner in SF, try Stars...it's moderately priced and has terrific food. The movie, "Nine Months," was filmed there. Have a good valentine's day!

Thanks for the responses. I would like to stay within the city as I have friends to visit and want to avoid renting a car. Checked out Hotel Monaco on the web- looked beautiful but prices were a bit higher ($180-200) than I wanted. Diva seems a bit too modern. Found a place called the "Mansions" in Pacific Heights which looked intersting and had units in my price range. Anyone heard anything positive or negative about this place?

You might also consider The Inn Above Tide in Sausalito (posted elsewhere on this message board). Sausalito is a quick ferry ride to SF. Some of the smaller rooms (still with a beautiful view) are within your price range. Enjoy.

Look into the White Swan Inn. We stayed there a while ago - price is within your range and it is a very good location within blocks of Union Square. Our room had a fireplace. Nice lounge and excellent breakfast. Have fun! Dick |
