romantic April weekend w/in driving distance of NYC

Trying to figure out a first anniversary weekend trip from NYC the last weekend March/first of April. We'd be willing to drive up to 4 hours each way.

Ideas/suggestions for something nice for that time of year? Thanks.

Woodstock Inn in Woodstock Vermont.
Any inn in Lenox Massaschusetts (the Amadeus is nice).
The Inn at Saratoga in Saratoga NY.
Happy anniversary!

I like Newport, RI as a "date" destination. Unfortunately, late March? As NYC residents you know everywhere you can drive in 4 hours will be chilly and damp.

Hello jhm
We celebrate our anniversary, also in April, for the last five years at the Mohonk Mountain House and the place is an ideal spot. Lots of place to walk, hike, rock climb and for all those romantic moments. We don't even rent a car from Manhattan. We take a bus and the Mohonk arranges 10-15 minutes transportation from New Paltz bus station. If you wish to drive I think it takes a little over one hour. Hope you both will like this place as much as we do.

I agree with the Mohonk Mountain House. When you see it, you think you're looking at a European Resort in the mountains. Their website is www.mohonk.com. Don't faint at the rates; they include 3 FABULOUS meals.

Beware that most rooms at Mohonk are tiny, but the setting and the hiking is good. Old Drovers Inn in Dover Plains (over two hundred years old) is very romantic and they have a great restaurant. Belvedere B&B (big Victorian) in between Rheinbeck and Hyde Park also is nice with good restaurant, but only go if you get one of the two rooms with Hudson River views. You might also consider the New Hope area or Cape May. Both can be very romantic.

Thanks, everyone! I'll look into all of your options. I really appreciate your helping us celebrate the first of what will hopefully be many, many more anniversaries...
