Romance in Maui/Kauai
We are going to Kauai (Secret Beach Hideaways) and Maui (Grand Wailea) for our honeymoon in June '05. I have no doubt that the whole trip will be incredibly wonderful and romantic, but am wondering what others have done that they found really romantic and unforgettable. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Wow, did you pick a couple great places , or what??? I've never stayed at Secret Beach Hideaways but I want to really bad. I did stay at the Grand Wailea this past February and loved it. Dinner at Mama's is romantic for me. HTG2Maui had a wonderful suggestion. You think you are going to have the greatest time? It's only going to be better than you can imagine!!!!

We just returned from 9 days in Kauai, and spent our 1st 3 nights at Hawaiaan Romantic Cottage, a sister property to Secret Beach. Nadine and Amy were outstanding in getting us acquainted with everything on the island. We had a grill at our cottage, so one day we stopped in at the Kilauea Fish Market on the road out to the lighthouse, and they did an awesome job marinating some fish fillets for us and also marinating and skewering some shrimp for grilling. We spent a little over $30, and went back to our cottage and had the most romantic dinner under the stars and then lounged in our hot tub and hammock. It was truly a night to remember! Don't forget to pick up some Coconut Macadamia Nut Macaroons for dessert. Our whole stay at the cottage was magical, and we can't wait to return. Lying in bed every morning and watching the sun rise over the North Shore was magical!
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and have a great trip!

Thanks for the all of the ideas! We will definitely note the Fish Market. We live in Manhattan and don't have a car or a grill. In Kauai we get to have both and plan on doing a lot of driving and grilling! Do you know of a good grocery store near the cottages?

We too just returned on 4/3/05 from Secret Beach -- we must have been there at the same time as jamsd1!
We had a fabulous time. You really will love it. The property is amazing, and the cottage really well-appointed.
As far as food, we were there one week, and mostly grilled (though some nights we just had fruit and drinks -- not hungry). We drove to Princeville (about 10 mins) to Foodland for our grocery shopping -- GET A MAIKAI discount card! We also bought fish at the Kilauea fish market, and ate a fresh pineapple every night from Banana Joe's, just out on the highway in Kilauea (we got one from Mango Mamas, but it wasn't as good).
Basically, we ate cut pineapple with our fingers, drank wine or spirits, and watched the beautiful sunset over the oceans each night. It was completely romantic, and we had a fantastic time.
Any other specific questions anyone may have, let me know; I'm happy to share. (oh, and P.S. -- I'm in Manhattan on a business trip right now -- with my Hawaii tan
