The Melrose Hotel (on corner Oak Lawn/Cedar Springs) is quite nice. And if I may admit I've had a couple 'matinee's' @ the Melrose (dating a guy who lives in Houston & flys up to Dallas for business).
The Melrose has a piano bar (that's the "Library"). I've not eaten in the hotel's restaurant although it's supposed to be quite good. Would suggest you head down the road a few blocks to the Mansion on Turtle Creek for dinner --- OR if you want something more casual, yet very tasty I'd suggest a Mexican restaurant called Nuovo Leon (within walking distance of Melrose, on corner of Oak Lawn/Hall Sts).

If money is no object, then you may consider staying at the Mansion --- they also have a piano bar, but I found their bar a bit too snooty for may tastes (okay, okay, I realize I'm talking about a city that takes pride in putting on airs.)

Another good hotel option is the Crescent. It's located in a high-end retail/office development on the north end of downtown Dallas. Good restaurant options close by.
