Rollerblading in New Orleans?

My husband and I have enjoyed doing some sightseeing by rollerblade in some smaller-sized cities.

Is this possible, desirable, doable in New Orleans (especially area around French Quarter, Garden District, riverfront)?

If so, is it easy to rent 'blades or should we bring our own?

Thanks!

The streets and sidewalks are not in the best shape here. And some people dislike being run over. There are several paved walk/ride trails in the city but none that are in the FQ. There is nothing here fast paced enough to warrant going by in skates, and most interesting things to see and do require a stop in side. I cannot see someone blading up to the Central Grocery and in for a Mufalatta? Nor into the Cabildo, or a coffee shop? The art galleries require a stop and look, gaze and see, why go by in a rush???

You might be able to blade on the Riverwalk, but I agree with the previous poster, the streets aren't really "roller-friendly".

Seeing as how New Orleans ranked as the second worst, i.e. dangerous, city for bike riding (can't recall what was first)I can only imagine what the roads and local drivers would have in store for bladers. You do however see the occassional brave soul on rollerblades. They are more prevalent at Aududon Park, but the park is now being upgraded and the track is an oval, so the you might tire of scenery quickly. You might check into the bike path which runs parallel to the Miss. River. It starts in the park behind the zoo and extends at least past Clearview Ave. and may even go all the way the airport.
