Rochester NY Restaurants

Rochester residents (wliwl especially) I need a restaurant for this Sunday, Aug 24 for that last dinner before dropping my son off at U of R. Any suggestions? I called 2 Vine today, but they said they were closed on Sundays. DS wants steak, but really he'll eat anything, he has very expensive tastes;)

Thanks in advance.

Drive out to Pittsford and go to Richardson's Canal House. It's a great restaurant in a historic canal house. If the weather is nice you can sit outside by the Erie Canal - at least do this for a drink before dinner.

Good luck to your son at U of R - it's a wonderful school!

Richardson's Canal House looks great, but it's closed on Sundays.

Any other ideas?

How about Max Chophouse on Monroe Ave? It looks like they are open on Sunday's. Mario's is also open on Sunday's. Both are on Monroe. Good luck to your son!

How about Tournedos? They are open for dinner on Sunday. I have had one fabulous meal there.

Lots of people like Black & Blue, but I have not eaten there.

I believe Max's is supposed to be very good too. I'm not a big fan of Mario's and I think Richardson's (sadly) has gotten kind of old.

A nice, small, relaxing restaurant that we really like is the Park Avenue Pub. It's in a neighborhood that's popular with college kids - about our only "hip" neighborhood, haha. They don't seem to have a web site, but I know they are open Sundays and they do have tenderloin.

I have one kid who's an expensive date too. LOL. Well, those are about the most expensive places in town! Have a good drop off day!!! :)

Here is a link that at least ahs the menu on it - but it might be an old menu as this is not a busy site.

You can't visit Rochester without going to Nick Tahou's for a garbage plate. (www.garbageplate.com)

:D LOL!!! Don't send them there for a special dinner!

I would suggest Pomidoro's restaurant on University Avenue. Great food and nice atmosphere.

Black and Blue is very good and very pricey. I dont know about the one in Roc, but you definitely need reservations for the one in Buffalo (its not a big chain-just the 2 locations that i know of). Good luck to you and your son. Also, the weather is looking good for this area (its been an unusually cool and rainy summer) so you should have a nice visit.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm sure I will eat a garbage plate sometime in the next four years, but not this trip!

We already have a reservation at Mario's, but I wasn't too excited about it which is why I asked for additional ideas. The Park Ave Pub and Pomodoro Grill both look like they would work better. I'll report back which one we end up going to. With 2 kids in college, it may the last time we eat out for a long time :)

I would recommend JoJo's in the village of Pittsford - small bistro, modern atmosphere with great food. The food at Richardson's Canal House is good, but I find the atmosphere there a bit stuffy and I think they've had the same colonial decor for the last 25 years without much updating. Black & Blue is also a good suggestion -- good food, modern trendy atmosphere. Mario's is OK, but I would prefer JoJo or B&B over Mario's. Northfield Inn (behind the Springhouse) is another good option - great outdoor patio if the weather is nice.

There's also a new restaurant in Pittsford that's getting good reviews - Mustards in Schoen Place - Napa-style dining/cuisine.

I also like LaSalle's Steak & Seafood on Empire Blvd (at bottom of Irondequoit Bay)- Very small, but great food.

I like Pomodors, but I think it's better for lunch.

Cher - Thanks for the recommendation on LaSalles. It is close to our house, but I've never been there. I've been to Sanibels near there twice, not thrilling.
