Roberto Passon Dress Code
After all the rave reviews that I've been reading about Roberto Passon (especially the veal!), my mom and I have made reservations for our weekend NYC trip. I'm trying to narrow down my packing. I'm a serious "I might want to wear this..." packer. What is the dress code?
|
So lucky ! One of my favorite restaurants since NeoPatrick recommended it to me a few years ago - I still crave their veal...pounded paper thin just the way I like it !
It is fairly casual - I've worn everything from black slacks, heels and an evening sweater/shawl to dress jeans, boots, turtleneck and jacket to summer cotton skirt, sandals and summer top - my husband usually wears his uniform of either khaki color pants and a collared shirt or dress jeans and the same - wear whatever makes you comfortable and works with the rest of your packing. You are in for a great meal. (ps. it is not fancy decor inside; nice banquettes, tables and chairs, lots of wood, immaculate, nice but casual in that sense - |
oops...in that sense - of you aren't walking into a restaurant with lots of crystal chandeliers, orientals, silver serving trays, etc...
|
My first impression was that it was much smaller than I had anticipated and there wasn't much room between the tables -- I don't know how the waiters manage to manuever so effectively.
But the food and service was excellent and once we were seated we didn't feel crowded at all. We were there on a Saturday night and wore dress pants and a sweater. The couple next to us was dressed in regular jeans and sweaters. I wouldn't pack anything special. Have a great trip. My 34 year old daughter and I went for a weekend and had a great time. |
Thanks for the replies. I'm packing jeans, so I'll throw in a nicer top than my tees and I should be good to go.
We haven't been to NYC since 2000. Can not wait for this trip! |
Have fun ! If you have time when you return, post a trip report with all your fun info -
|
We ate at Roberto Passon on our last trip to NYC in January. It was the best meal of our trip and actually the least expensive. People there wearing anything from jeans to suit and ties.
|
Hopefully you have a better experience at Roberto Passon's that we did. We too chose this restaurant due to reviews on this board.Maybe it was an off night for them, but our food was mediocre at best. The special of the night, lamb shank, was so tough it had to be sent back and replaced with another entree. The 3 pasta dishes were just OK, as was the calamari. The dessert was very good.
Hope you have better luck. |
I will post a report when I get back. It will be a great trip full of shopping and eating. So glad my hubby isn't a fan of NYC (I know...) This way it's a girls trip full of things I want to do! My mom grew up in CT and misses the food the most. We'll be stuffing bagels and hard rolls (FL doesn't do hard rolls) into our suitcases. We went for pizza last Friday at a place that someone said "they have pizza like New Haven, CT!" so 4 of us ordered 2 large pies..well, you could tell they weren't CT pizza just by the looks of the crust! Very disappointing! But..in 2 weeks I'll be @ Grimaldi's!

jd I can't tell you how disappointed I am that you had a disappointing experience ! - After Neopatrick recommended it to us, we have been there seven times in the past two years and never been disappointed, nor have any of hte people with us - and the lamb shank has been enjoyed a few times - and the staff was always top notch - so sorry - hope you can give it another try some time -
|
An FYI on Roberto Passon which is one
of 10 restaurants - www.NYCRG.com many (not all) may be viewed & booked at opentable.com |
escargot: What makes it worse is we were going to NYC with friends, and I was the one who chose the restaurant.I'll never live that down-in fact I'm banned from even saying the words "Roberto Passon".
|
Oh jd, I feel your pain but I am really sorry you had such a lousy experience - we recommend it so often and I literally crave their veal dish all year long - !! Maybe if you go back without your friends you will give it another whirl -
3dogmom: I don't know why I am thinking this - but is Roberto Passon the restaurant that doesn't take credit cards or just amex or something like that ? I'm not sure, I could be thinking of another restaurant, but you might want to check. |
jd I was just reading some reviews online, some iffy ones in the past few months (we haven't been since March of this year) - was there construction going on when you were there ? (sorry dgomom, for hijacking your post- i am curious if they are renovating)
|
Escargot - yes, they only take American Express.
|
Escargot...hijack away! I'm so glad you did because now I'm nervous about the AMEX only. I'll just have to remember to save my cash for dinner and use the Visa for everything else. Who in the world doesn't take Visa?? I guess I just got my answer.
|
BoulderCO, good memory - I knew it was something like that -
3dogmom - have fun, don't foget to give us a report . |
I don't recall there being any construction going on. We were there at the end of April.
I'm always willing to give a place a 2nd chance. My husband, however, is a different story! Once he's had a bad experience it's hard to get him to go back. 3dogmom- hope you write a review when you get back! Funny, I don't remember them only taking AMEX. |
**NOTE** Just talked to my friend in the city - Roberto Passon has changed to taking ALL credit cards EXCEPT Discover - they used to only take American Express but they recently changed that -
so 3dogmom SPEND ALL YOUR CASH SHOPPING :) |
WOOHOOO! Thanks, escargot! I've been obsessing about what to spend cash vs. Visa on, yada, yada...now I don't have to worry. I didn't plan to carry a big wad of cash with me, so this will work out perfectly. Thanks so much.
