roadtrip west in Jan.-will brake for silly attractions

a friend and i are taking a roadtrip out to calif. january 11th though 15th? we will be going the south route along highway 40, starting in st.louis mo. can anyone suggest good roadside attractions to see along the way. "good" to us would be pop culture type stuff, old west cowboy attractions, silly musums, unique diners. that kind of stuff. isn't there a buffalo ranch along the way? we plan to drive to the grand canyon stay a night and then drive a couple more days to finally arrive in oakland ca. and are looking for intesting sites along the way, and possibly a good vinyard once we near oakland area. any suggestions or websites are appreciated! thanks

The perfect URL to find everything you could possibly want to know about off-beat attractions in the U.S. is

There is a Route 66 Museum in Clinton or Elk City in Western Oklahoma. There is the Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo, TX.

Starting from St. Louis on I-44 and connecting to I-40, you're basically doing the old US66 route. There are some posts about this on here, so you can do a search of Route 66. Plus, plenty of books on the topic too.

Definitely check the Roadside America site PaulRabe listed.

There's the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, MO if you're brave enough.

Tinkertown Museum just outside Albuquerque is really cool. You might also enjoy the Rattlesnake Museum in Albuquerque's Old Town. Have lunch at the Route 66 Malt Shop just west of Old Town.

There are some fun dinosaur sculptures outside Holbrook, AZ, and of course there's the Meteor Crater near Winslow, though it's expensive. You can go into Winslow and "stand on the corner" ala the Eagles song...
