Heading across Kansas there are many interesting options. I've been recently building a website devoted to them: http:www.kansastravel.org

A few interesting stops within 15-30 miles of I-70 would include Lucas (Grassroots Art Capital), Castle Rock (beautiful undeveloped badlands), and Council Grove with its many mid 1800s attractions.

Oh my gosh... utahtea, I sure wasn't looking for an argument or, in any way, trying to disrespect your advice or opinions. I was merely trying to offer the OP some options. Sorry if I offended...

nevermind,

I think highly of your posts, so I wasn't trying to start an argument. I'm sorry if it sounded that way too. I was just trying to set the record straight. Most people think I live in Utah because of my sign on name, that and the fact that I probably know more about Utah than California...LOL! I just wanted you to know that I do know about Californa and there is a lot to see here.

utahtea,

I really feel a lot better. It upsets me when I see people get peevish with one another. I'm glad you weren't upset with me. It is never my intent to step on someone's toes or offend.

Cheers!

I agree with Nevermind's California suggestions. I'm not that into Southern CA myself. I like the central coast too, and if you must go to So Cal, go to San Diego.

Nevermind- do you want to do a new post asking for specifics on my Centtral Coast or SF Bay area info? I could add them here too.

thereandback, like trippinkpj, I can give central coast Ca help. It really is beautiful here. If you do decide to do So. Cal, there are some highlights that don't include the big touristy places. Your trip sounds like so much fun, I want to come along I usually see the US looking out the airplane window and someday will do a roadtrip such as this.

Thank you everyone for all of your great advice. A couple more questions... In New Mexico, should we go to Albuquerque or Santa Fe? Also we are going to Southern California and would like a few tips on what to see and do. We are planning 2 days or so there. Last one right now. Where should we go when we leave the Grand Canyon headed to Denver (Where to stop in Utah)? Thank you very much!

Albuquerque or Santa Fe? Sante Fe, hand down!

Best two places to go between Grand Canyon and Denver? Zion (well, sort of between) and Bryce Canyon.

Asking for what to see in two days in Southern California is much too big a topic to begin to discuss. You need to tell us what sort of thing or where you want to go.

You could stop in Moab, UT. Check out Arches and Canyonlands for a day or two. That kinda serves as a midpoint between the Grand Canyon and Denver.
