Roads in Maui

Does anyone have any experience with the roads in Maui? We are thinking about staying in Upcountry, however I am a little concerned
when I see on Mapquest that it take 22 min to drive 6 miles.
Tanya,

I was there last September, and went upcountry, the roads were very winding and slow due to tourists like us! If you just take it slow, you'll be fine. Beautiful place no matter what! Have a good trip.
Marti

Hi Tanya. I just got back from 2 weeks on Maui and I stay in Hali'imaile, which is in Upcountry, near Makawao. It doesn't take 22 minutes to drive 6 miles unless there is an accident or something. It IS true that you have to drive sometimes long distances to get to places such as Lahaina, Wailea, Makena, etc., but if traffic is flowing, it's just like anywhere else. Upcountry is nice and it's often cheaper than staying at the beach. Where are you thinking about staying?
