MOCHA9--Yes, the west is vast and many people do not realize how spread out it is and so how it takes more time to see things. I have a friend who had never flown before either until she was in her late 40's. She is still afraid, but will go. Best wishes on your trip:)

Thanks so much, everyone, for your suggestions! I really appreciate your input. I'm still open to any suggestions for lodging, dining, etc. Any suggestions for Seattle would be appreciated also!

The HI hostel is much better than the "others".
http://www.hiusa.org/washington/seat...american-hotel Of course visit the Pike Place Market. |
It's this lik Pittsburgh's strip district? Also, the gum wall?!?
|
The gum wall was cleaned last year. New gum was put back up.
http://time.com/4116070/seattle-gum-wall-regummed/ The gum wall is in a walkway just to the south of Pike Place Market. There used to be a hostel near the lower end of the gum wall. I don't know if it is still open. The newish HI hostel is down within walking distance of the newly remodeled King St. Amtrak station. The HI hostel is the former American Hotel. Century Link field is also within walking distance of the Amtrak station. |
If the gum wall is your thing, you might like the troll under the Aurora Bridge and the tour of underground Seattle.
