Road Trip to Portland

Hello Everyone! I am trying to plan a road trip from Denver to Portland. I will be able to go in either January, February, March, or April. Which month would be the best if we plan on mostly sight seeing. I would like to see waterfalls and such, but I also don't want to be freezing! Also I don't know if clouds or rain would make it pointless. Any feedback would be so helpful!!

April. Lovely in the spring, meh in the winter.

Of the four months you listed, April would be the best time to visit Portland, Oregon.

In addition to waterfalls, please also check out the spectacular Oregon Coast which is a short drive from Portland.

Is this a solo trip? It is about 1260 miles via Boise ID.
Are you planning on 2 9.5 to 10 hour driving days stopping in Twin Falls ID?
My preference for a solo trip from Denver to Portland would be to take the Amtrak California Zephyr west from Denver (8AM) to Sacramento. Spend about 8 hours in Sacramento and leave about midnight on the Coast Starlight for Portland. Rent a car in downtown Portland to go see the waterfalls and other things outside the city. Fly home if you don't like the train.
How many days do you have in total for this trip?
I agree that April is the time to go.

No I am going with my boyfriend. For the trip we have anywhere from a week to a week in a half. We're not old enough to rent a car... or it will be really expensive if we can, so we would preferably like to drive there. We were planning on stopping at a hot spring around Ogden, Utah, then heading into Idaho where we would stay the night and then continue into Oregon the next day. Does this sound doable?

In case you don't know: In addition to the great waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge, there are ten waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park--about 70 miles south of Portland: http://www.oregonstateparks.org/inde...age&parkId=151
