Road Trip to Moab

Hello. Will be travelling from Vancouver to Moab. First stop is Yakima, then onward bound. Wondering if we should push it to Salt Lake our next day driving, or if there is some cute quaint town/city/place just outside of Salt Lake worth staying the night in? Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

Hi Cate,

I haven't done it myself, but I've been told it's about 12 hours from Washington to SLC. Not really any cute places to stay from Ogden, SLC, Provo, unless you want to detour 30 minutes to Park City.

I have done it several times (13 hours from Seattle) and I prefer to break up the trip with an overnight stop In La Grande, Oregon, which is a small (probably cute) town near the Blue Mountains in Oregon. But from there it is about 7 or 8 more hours to Salt Lake City---with nothing much else that would qualify as small or "quaint" (unless you wish to detour up to Ketchum and Sun Valley---nice mountain biking there).

I think we will give it a good push then and go from Yakima to SLC. Then off to MOAB the next day. Camping for a few nights, Red CLiff Lodge other nights. LOTS of mountain biking and probably a raft trip. I imagine it is worth it to hit a raft trip?

Cate,

Yes a rafting trip is great. Right around Moab, it's just a float, no whitewater. But you can do other day trips starting in Moab with a shuttle or jet boat that will get you some real thrills.

You do know that the Red Cliffs Lodge is quite a drive east of town?
