Road Trip St Louis Cardinals game
Hello, I'm taking a quick trip out to St Louis to take in a Cardinals game and I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions on where to stay. Ideally I would like to not have to drive to the game. However, more importantly I don't want to stay in an super-touristy part of town. I like local bars and eateries. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Chris.

We have stayed at the Renaissance Grand, Drury Inn on Broadway and on Market, the Hampton at the Arch, and the Embassy Suites. All are within walking distance or a short ride on the rail system. They are all nice, although the Embassy was beginning to show signs of wear. Keep in mind you will have to pay to park if you stay downtown!!

One option would be to stay in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis and then take Metrolink down to the game. There are three hotel options in that area:
Chase Park Plaza: one of the nicest and most expensive hotels in town.
Best Western: okay motel.
Parkway Hotel: part of the Barnes/Jewish/Childrens hospital complex. Meant more for families with loved ones staying in the hospital, but no reason you couldn't stay there.
There are a number of good "local" bars and restaurants along Euclid.
You can also take the Metrolink 2 stations west to the University City neighborhood where there are plenty of local drinking and dining options.

BTW: the Embassy Suites on the Landing has been purchased by Pinnacle Casinos and will be folded into the new casino complex they are building. The piece on local TV about the purchase promised a major rennovation and even a possible rebranding.
I agree. Great location but starting to show it's age

I agree with dweebe. If you want to stay somewhere with local flavor the Central West End would be a good place to stay. Otherwise the hotels closest to the stadium are the Adams Mark, Marriott, and the Drury Plaza. I wouldn't recommend the Embassy Suites. Its farther away, closer to the dome than Busch Stadium, and kind of run down.
If you rent a car you may want to consider driving to The Hill for some fabulous Italian restaurants. Its a short and easy drive from downtown.

One of my favorite hotels for a Cardinal's game is the Westin St. Louis. It is located right next to the stadium, and I think the hotel is beautiful. It is right on the Metrolink at the Busch Stadium stop. Also, they offer some Cardinal specials that include a room, appetizers at the Clark Street Grill in the hotel, and free parking.

We like to stay at the Westin. Very close to the park and on the metro system as well. Usually like to stop in at the Marriot before and after the game to "watch the crowd and have a beer."
