Road trip south from New Jersey
 

My wife and I will be traveling south by car from New Jersey the early part of Nov. Either going down the coast maybe as far as Savannah or southwest toward Memphis. First of all I would like to know which direction would be more enjoyable and what you would suggest as " Don't Miss " We are both retired and putting a new car on the road. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated........................Thanks in advance

In November, I'd probably head south. Less chance of snow on the drive. The mountains going southwest could get some crappy weather.

Maybe a few nights in DC? Then continue south.

Savannah is fantastic! I'd stop and spend a few nights in Charleston on the way down. If you golf, you could hit up Hilton Head too.

Depending on where you are starting from, why not head down the Garden State to Cape May and take the ferry to Lewes Deleware. If you like nature, stop in Chincoteague for a night then head south and go over the Bay bridge.

You could stop in the Williamsburgh, Jamestown, Yorktown area before heading farther south.

I think that time of year dead south would be more enjoyable, and there is more than enough to do along the way.
Charleston for sure.
Wilmington, NC has a nice historic waterfront--and a pleasant beach (Wrightsville).
Then there's Pawley's Island below Myrtle (just keep goin' through that one!!) and at Litchfield (just above Pawley's) stop and see Brookgreen Gardens. Beautiful gardens, sculptures, and art. Georgetown also worth a drive through--Revolutionary War homes and nice waterfront--small.

Don't miss Charleston. We just came back to south Jersey after a wonderful week there! So much to see and do.
