Road Trip - Need suggestions!
 

Hi - planning a road trip for 3 months in the summer. Would love suggestions on favorite national parks / hikes / unknown jewels across the US - please share! many thanks..

One of our favorite places to go is the Northern California coast from Point Reyes (above San Francisco) to Mendocino. We've been on this route numerous times and never, ever tire of it. Also, be sure to add on a stop to Avenue of the Giants where the tall redwood are. Awesome.
Hope you have some great travels and will give us a trip report when you are finished.

First tell us where your trip starts. We like a little hike to Owl's Head in New York State. Would you like to go south, north, east, west? Just two adults or kids too? Their ages?

Sorry - should have given more info. 2 late twenties adults, starting in San Fran and arriving in Maine 3 months later. Not averse to backtracking/going out of the way for must-sees. Thanks for advice so far...

Get a map and look for the red lines (they are the highways) and then plot a route. It's not rocket science.

I will admit that I am predjudiced about my part of the country, but I vote that you include KY and TN in this trip. Visit Mammoth Cave, continue east to Lexington to see the horse farms, head southeast to Cumberland Falls (one of only two spots in the world where you can see a moon-bow), then head to TN and the Great Smokies, before heading back to the north through NC and VA.

Flemmind - Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion are musts! Also think about Yellowstone, Grand Tetons etc. These are not unknowns, but there are reasons they are so popular!

The White Mountains and lakes in New Hampshire are great, as is the Stowe/Manchester, VT areas.

Think about the Berkshires in Massachusetts, the Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway on up through Shenandoah National Park, etc..you can hit part of the Appalacian trail from this part.
