Road Trip - Lake Michigan
Hi Everyone!
Has anyone done a road trip around Lake Michigan? Hubby and I live in Michigan and just wondering if this would be a fun thing to do. Appreiciate any advice on attractions along that route. Mari |
I've done the Lake Superior & Lake Huron circles. Haven't done the Lake Michigan one, but have driven on all the shore but Green Bay to Chicago.
It is all very nice, with the exception of getting through/around Chicago and the south end of the Lake. Where would you leave from, how much time do you have available, and what time of year would you go? Keith |
If you want to avoid the south end of the lake, there is a ferry that runs from Wisconsin to Michigan.

To answer the above; my husband and I would be leaving from Ludington, Mi, on the eastern coast of Lake Michigan. (halfway between Muskegon & Traverse City)
|
It's a great trip. My husband and I rode it on a motorcycle and I recall wearing a winter coat going around the 'tip' in the UP and sweating near Holland as we went back to Indy.
Since you live in Ludington, why not take the Badger across from WI? And isn't it this summer the hydrofoil (or some faster boat) will be going to Muskegon if you don't want to tempt Chgo? (Altho a great town) |
I live in WIsconsin on the coast of Lake Michigan and I would be happy to answer any questions. Take a look at what I wrote for Summer in Great Lakes for ideas of things to do.
Have fun! |
I know this is an old thread, but here are a couple of links for anyone else who might be thinking about doing this trip.
