road trip in the south east
We are taking a two week road trip. We are planning to fly into Little Rock and see Tennessee, Kentucky, then down thru Georgia or Alabama to the coast and see Louisanna,
Mississippi and end up in Austin Texas. We are going the last couple of weeks of October. We enjoy scenery, history, fall colors and the country side more than cities. Any suggestions of routes, places to see, etc. Thank you |
Little Rock--Perhaps see Bill Clinton Library
1-2 days in Memphis--See Graceland, Beale Street, Peabody Duck Eat at Blues City Cafe, Gus's Fired Chicken, Rendevouz 1-2 days in Nashville Eat at The Loveless Cafe, and Hot Fried Chicken somewhere See Ryman, See Country Music Hall of Fame, See The Hermitage Head north to Kentucky See Corvette Factory and across the street is Corvette Museum Have a meal at the Corvette Museum Cafe See Mammoth Cave From there head to Gatlinburg/Great Smoky Mountains Spend 1-2 days there. I would drive Cades Cove. Good short hikes are Clingmon's Dome, Abram Falls, Grotto Falls. We always go ziplinning in Gatlinburg. I also like Parrot Mountain there. Then head across the mountains to Asheville, NC. See Biltmore House. Eat at French Broad Chocolate Factory. From there you could head into Georgia. I don't know if you want to go as far west as Savanah? Then on to New Orleans. I really like the Plantations on the River Roab between NO and Baton Rouge. I like The Nottoway and Oak Alley best, but there are 5 or 6 others that we found very good too. Each is unique. I think your biting off a bit much for just 2 weeks. I think you are likely to cut a few things out as most of the places I mentioned are pretty rushed, would really be better to spend more time at each. |
In Lafayette, LA-eat at Prejeans.

see the voodoo museum in NOLA as well as the cemeteries and garden district and bourbon street. dont forget vicksburg.

thanks so much...I will look this over and rethink out route..
|
after we see Kentucky and Tennessee...what is the best route down to New Orleans?
|
That will depend on what else you want to see. I might go to New Orleans after Gatlinburg or Ashville.
I agree with Katzgar about the cemeteries and Garden District. I like to eat at Commanders Palace in NO and there is a cool cemetery to walk through right across the street from it. I'll have to pass on anything voodoo, that creeps me out. |
thanks...Any lodging suggestions for the varios areas..looking for nice and safe...We dont need to be idown town
