Road trip from and back to New York

Hi there
Planning return trip from uk to New York next June. Hubby loves driving around the states and happy to drive 1000 miles over two weeks. Been looking at leaving NYC the drive onto Harrisburg onto Morgantown down to Harrisonburg across to Washington upto Baltimore, Philadelphia back yo NYC

Your thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks

Still researching and maybe wheeling instead of Morgantown?.

No clue about Harrisburg and Morgantown. Have you considered spending time at Gettysburgh and also in the Amish area of PA? Think they would make a good combo with NYC and DC.

Or you might consider Colonial Williamsburg and Monticello/Mount Vernon if you want to go a couple of hours south.

What are interested in seeing besides roadside rest stops?

Morgantown and Harriburg are as random as places get.

My suggestion; Lancaster County, PA, through Harrisburg and on to Gettysburg...then down to Berkeley Springs, WV, then Staunton, VA, Washington DC, Baltimore and then Rehoboth Beach, Del...and Ferry to Cape May and back to NYC.

Hi all
thanks for you replies. My husband loves old english classic cars and we have bought the odd one and had it shipped home in the past. Random, I know!! I love animals, plants, countryside, scenery but also little quaint towns. Love a good farmers market. We love just driving around the states and yes looking at road signs. We are pretty simple really. Like nice buildings. Not so much interest in history.

After further googling I agree IMDonehere Morgantown and Harriburg are pretty random. Thanks nytraveler Gettysburg looks interest. And SusieQQ that little suggestion of your appeals. Will route plan miles and take another look.

Cheers folks your help is much appreciated :)

if you are looking for a farmer's market, there is the Lancaster Farmer's Market in Lancaster Pa, for gardens, Longwood Gardens in nearby Kennett Square Pa,

Since you're in the area and are into the car scene a bit, you might want to check out Carlisle. They have car shows there pretty regularly.

The State Capitol building in Harrisburg is really quite lovely inside--just a short tour, nothing too intense, but beautiful.

Philadelphia has some cool farmers' markets, actually, with the Reading Terminal Market being the most famous. (Wednesday to Saturday for the Amish vendors) As it's a city, it's not the best for driving, but there are definitely some great buildings and interesting walks, plus Bartram's Garden and Tinicum Wildlife Reserve for your nature fix.

Neither Harrisburg nor Morgantown would hit my places-to-visit list, but maybe I don't know what drew you to them.

There is an Amish area a bit further west, centered (I believe) in / around Berlin (pronounced BURL - in), but if that culture is of interest to you, then Lancaster, PA, might make more sense.

Pittsburgh actually has a great deal to offer, so you might look into your options there.

Hope that helps!
