since you are still in the early planning stages, I thought I would throw out a route I took with a college friend to celebrate finishing our graduate programs (and to get out of GA during the Olympics!) We took a month to get from Athens to Pittsburgh to attend a friends wedding, via:

New Orleans
Austin
Albuquerque
Santa Fe/Taos
White Sands Natl Monument (so cool!)
Durango
Arches
Moab
Park City
Jackson Hole
Badlands
Chicago
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh!

I am sure I missed a few due to the sheer number of years that have passed since that trip. . .but New Mexico and Utah were awesome. We brought our mountain bikes and camped at sites or stayed with friends the whole way and we were so low maintenance then so it was so easy. . .I LOVE Austin but have to admit driving through Texas was the toughest - just long.

ugadog99 - If you'd like a "downtown" base for Grand Teton Natl Park, staying near the square in Jackson is fun. We've stayed at the Antler Inn several times and will be spending 3 nights there this September. One fun thing to do that doesn't require a lot of walking is taking the tram to the top of the mountain at the Jackson Hole Ski area, hike or look around some and then take the tram back down. Also, if you take the boat across Jenny Lake and walk a little ways up to the falls, you can also take the boat back -- no hiking around the lake necessary. Go early in the morning so there's a shorter wait for the boat. Also, a suggestion -- see the Badlands, Black Hills and Mount Rushmore before you see the grandeur and majesty of the Rockies or the Tetons. If you do it the other way, it could be anticlimatic or even a disappointment. Check out a map of Yellowstone and figure your driving and stops. I think if you're not hiking trails, 2 full days would be enough. If driving between Yellowstone and Glacier, Bozeman can be an nice stop.
