Road trip
Hi, My family is looking to do a road trip towards the end of august. Leaving from NY, maybe ending in GA, and obviously back. We have 2 teens and most likely for about a week and a 1/2.
Any suggestions, places to stay or different destinations welcome. |
What are your family's interests? My husband and I went on a road trip in April and saw a number of civil rights sites. This wouldn't be everyone's vacation choice but was very interesting/powerful. I could give more details if you are interested.

We are open to education as well as fun things to do along the way. This way everyone will have an enjoyable time

On our road trip in April we visited Birmingham and Montgomery with an emphasis on seeing Civil Rights sights. The places we saw in Montgomery were:
The Rosa Parks Library and Museum. It tells the story of the Montgomery Bus Boycott of the 1950s, . he Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church where MLK preached is nearby but we didn't do the tour there.. The Civil Rights Memorial and Center is just down the street from the Dexter Avenue Church. It concentrates on the stories of people killed during the Civil Rights movement. There is a small memorial designed by Maya Lin (best known for designing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC)The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration and the Memorial for Peace and Justice opened in 2018 and are very powerful reminders of the story of racial inequality in our country. https://museumandmemorial.eji.org/The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. We drove this and visited one of the interpretive centers on that trail. Montgomery also has other tourist sites including the state capital, the capital of the confederacy museum and the Hank Williams Museum Montgomery is about 2 1/2 hours from Atlanta so might or might not fit in with other things you want to do. |

Williamsburg VA area also. Outer Banks. How much driving time will a week and a half eat into? Maybe you should end in Virginia! |
A week and a half isn’t much time. We recently went DC-Kitty Hawk -Wilmington-Charleston-Chapel Hill-Charlottesville-Luray-DC and THAT took 10 days. |
