Road trip

Good Morning
A couple of 60s are going to do a self drive Sept / Oct for 6 weeks and driving a circuit
Nashville to Gatlinburg to Charlotte to Charlestown to Savannah to Jacksonville to Talahasse to Mobile to New Orleans to Natches to Memphis and back to Nashville
We love scenery and enjoy going to safe out of the way places and enjoy walking can anyone from the various areas recommend the special things we will remember forever
We obviously intend to check out the tourist spots in each city ,but it is the beautiful spots between places we love to find
Thanks in anticipation

I assume you are speaking of Charleston as opposed to Charlestown. I would recommend a possible look around in Beaufort, SC, between Charleston and Savannah.

You do not say why you chose Jax but I would certainly recommend your going slightly further to St. Augustine.

Since you've got six weeks:

stop in Asheville on the way to Charlotte.

Concur with Beaufort, SC.

Edisto Beach between Charleston and Savannah.

Sea Islands, GA, on the way to Florida.

Concur with Dukey on St. Augustine, and would also suggest Fernandina Beach north of there. Much better than Jax, IMO.

Check out Wakulla Springs State Park, just outside Tallahassee, and then drive to Apalachicola for oysters before hitting the panhandle coast.

That will get you started.

Not only should you visit St. Augustine, you might be able to incorporate a drive along scenic Hwy A1A. http://www.scenica1a.org/

Charleston is a great stop and I back up the original responder -- stop at Beaufort, SC and add in Hunting Island. They're both amazing, very laid back, and very historic. Both are top ranked as some of my favorite getaways...and I've been ALL OVER the world :D

Also -- Sapelo Island off of the coast of Georgia is extremely unique. You must ferry out there, though. I thought it was great fun when I went last.
