Road Trip

Hi,

My husband and I are taking a road trip this Spring. We have some of our destinations mapped out but I am looking for something interesting that would lie roughly halfway between Beaufort, NC and Columbus, OH. Any suggestions?

The area* around Wytheville, VA is gorgeous, it's about halfway.

*I am not recommending Wytheville in particular, but the area. I've never been to Wytheville itself. You should look at the maps, but it is near the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive, the AT, etc. I have hiked in the area. In May. It snowed at the summit. But it was beautiful,

How close is the New River Valley to your route? A spectacular area.

As far as One Big Attraction, like Biltmore, I am no help at all.

Hillsville VA is closer to halfway. There is a Holiday Inn Express off the exit. It is not too far from the New River Gorge which is scenic.

I recommend Winston Salem--not for hiking but good food and seeing Old Salem. You can also do some wineries nearby.

Going up I77 will provide some places--someone on another thread has mentioned a few.

Asheville would also be a possibility and the Blue Ridge Parkway north and south of the town.

Another area that is interesting if you like pottery is around Seagrove, NC, just a little south of Ashboro (and its zoo). There are 100 potteries in that area ranging from traditonal to modern to glasswork to raku. REALLY interesting touring the area.
