Road to Hana Closed?

I had heard that the road to Hana is closed due to the earthquake and that travelers are not able to drive the entire loop. Does anybody know if this is true?

Here is a recent thread that has an article posted by a Maui resident. It is a few days old.

There are locals who've been posting updates at Trip Advisor. Here's one that was updated today:

We're leaving to Maui on Friday, staying at Hotel Hana Maui. As far as we know the front way to Hana is open but not the back way. So, you can't make a complete circuit, you can go in and out the front way, (Hookipa, Haiku etc.)

Lauricelli,

That's right, and access to the Kipahulu area past Hana is closed off.

Here is an article about it in the Honolulu paper.

yep, i'd confirm that from personal experience a few day ago. We were sure the road would be open..but got right to the end of the jungle past kipahlu and it was big stuff needing done with the road. I don't recommend trying it until you know from someone for sure as the mosquitos there are swarming and bloodthirsty! that road eludes me..but I'll drive it one day..and I'll also see that dern haleakala without more than 0% visibility..one day

..err make that *with* more than 0 % visibility..though
the times I've attempted it did seem like a bit less than..
