Road Advice To Glacier from Great Falls
 

Spur of the moment trip in about a week. We are flying into Great Falls around 5 pm. We are tent camping one week in and around Glacier. We are photographers seeking a quite, nice place to camp the first night. Inside or out of the park. Which route do we take from Great Falls..89 or 15?
On the way back we fly out of Missoula. Take 83 from the park South?

US 89 is my favorite because it's closer to the Rocky Mountain Front but the fastest way would be to shoot up I15 to Montana 44 which runs west through Valier and hooks up with US 89 north of Dupuyer.

Returning to Missoula you could take US 93 or MT 83. US 93 is busier and faster but I prefer MT 83. Don't drive MT 83 at night unless you want a deer hood ornament on your rental car.

I like the Valier route, but there are several options.

Though this post is old, for anyone's info. highway 83 from 200 is closed due to forest fires.
