Riviera hotel and Casino
Hi, we are going to Vegas April 7-10 and are staying at the Riviera. has anyone stayed here? is it decent? hows the location? Thank you for any replies.

Have not stayed there, but been in the Casino. Not a hotel I would choose, but to each there own. We stayed across the street at the Stardust and enjoyed it. They have a very good pool area and rooms have recently been refurbished. There is a restaruant and fireside lounge called Peppermills across from the Stardust. Their breakfast is very good and reasonalbe. The fireside lounge in the evening is nice.
The location not that great to the major hotels on the Strip. However, the bus stop is very convenient and cheap. We've walked from the Stardust to the Mirage and it took us aout 30 minutes. Check out Trip Advisor and http://www.ratelasvegas.com/hotels/ratings/h243.html for reviews |
I just wanted to alert potential guests to the shoddy treatment they are in for at the Riviera Hotel. My family unfortunately has to stay there this weekend for a tournament that's located there for our son. Never have I heard how awful a hotel can be until my husband told me of his bad experience that began the night they checked in last Friday.
My husband arrived after 9 pm with our son for the chess tournament taking place this weekend at the Riviera. He booked the room over a month ago guranteeing it with a credit card. He specifically asked for a non-smoking room as neither he nor our son can tolerate smoke. Instead of receiving the room that they needed the clerk was very rude, shaking her head in disbelief that he was asking her for the type of room he reserved. She told him that he could change rooms on the following day but since my husband and son were tired from traveling they took the smoking room. The room reeks of smoke and the room itself is badly maintained with the shower faucet knob being loose and the towels are very thin and worn. What next took place is unbelievable. The reservations manager or one of the reservations managers came up to my husband (after the desk clerk went to relate her story) and sarcastically asked if there is a problem. My husband explained to this manager the situation and the manager actually told my husband that he overheard him being rude to the desk clerk when in reality the desk clerk was unprofessional and rude in her treatment of my husband who is a PAYING GUEST. As of today (Sunday)my husband says that everyone working at the hotel appears to be very angry and unhappy. The waitresses are not pleasant and the bell people are very rude. We think that these workers hate working there obviously and most likely it's due to their managers who they must dislike. But whatever reasons they are angry and unhappy they should not treat guests with contempt. In reading other guests' reviews at Trip Advisor, there are many complaints of guests (some with asthma) not getting the non-smoking rooms they expected. Apparently this is a regular happening, but it's wrong especially when a guest has a health problem that necessitates their being lodged in a non-smoking room only. Apparently the Riviera, which I believe is independently owned, has no quality control and obviousl cares nothing about how their staff treat their guests. I suppose because of the many small-time conventions that are booked with them they have that 'Take it or leave it.' attitude. I've sent emails to the Riviera and they have not responded. I plan to file a complaint with the NV BBB. |
It's been a few years since I've stayed at the hotel but did stop in recently for a short session of gambling. Here's my take on the hotel:
1. Will most likely be bought, torn down, & a new mega resort will be built 2. Casino is very dated and on the dirty /unkept side 3. The pool is actually ok..nothing fancy but very usable 4. Good slots (we've always had luck) 5. Rooms are ok but nothing exceptional 6. I found staff to be friendly....we were upgraded to a pool side suite the last time we stayed (no apparent reason) 7. Location is not great |
I do hope they tear down this sorry hotel and with that bring in competent, caring management and staff members-in short people who understand that they work in the SERVICE industry. In general, I hope there will be an overhaul from bottom to top.
I am sure the tournament organizers(son is in the chess tournament that always books there due to an obviously great deal they are receiving from the Riviera) will not have their tournament at whatever new hotel that'll be rebuilt. They simply won't be able to afford it. They have to go for the cheapy hotels only. |
