Riverside Park access NYC

We'd like to walk from Central Park West on 79th Street to Riverside Park on 79th Street. Is this possible or is it accessable by car and public tranportation only? Looks like it would only take about half an hour to walk there.

No problem. Just walk around the museum and follow 79th Street west.

And it will only take 30 minutes if you walk really really slow.

(Your other option is the M79 bus which runs cross-town on 79th Street. Catch it at 81st Street & Central Park West.)

Gekko,
Thanks so much! Good to know which bus to take, as we're going in July, and it will probably be very hot! I'm sure we'll be grateful to be able to catch a bus.

Sandy - not to be discouraging - but you could probably walk there by the time the bus turns up. If it's relaly hot, for two people bus and cab would cost the same. For three or more a cab would be cheaper.

79th street is an interesting walk. Plus lots of places to stop for cooling drinks (esp. on Columbus, Amsterdam) shopping. Many of us walk from Riverside thru Central Park to the East Side.

Elainee & nytraveler,
Thanks! If it's really hot -- and it could well be, in July -- we would take a cab, but hopefully, we'll be able to walk or ride the bus. We're getting a 7 day metro pass, so we want to use that as much as possible.
