River Cafe...worthwhile?

Haven't been to the River Cafe in several years and will be spending three days in NYC in mid-June and looking for memorable restaurants. River Cafe did fill that bill but will it do so now? If so, any thoughts whether lunch or dinner? Thanks.

Not sure what bill you're hoping to fill but River Cafe' still has decent enough food. The setting is rather spectacular though. If you last visited the restaurant during the daytime, you could always make a dinner reservation for a different slant on the view of Manhattan.

There are so many wonderful restaurants in the city; why not try something new?

Thanks Bowspirit. would appreciate your suggestions on other restaurants in same category as River Cafe...that is, good food and "wonderful"

What's the meal and what's the budget?

If it's dinner and money is no object, head to Per Se. $275.00 pp and worth almost every penny.

Like steak? Peter Luger's isn't too shabby of an experience.
Delmonico's is steeped in history and is old school in it's presentation and atmosphere.

Italian? Babbo has a bit of a reputation. But the options in this category are really endless.

Gramercy Tavern could be included here as an option.

Marea is fantastic. Cafe' Boulud is also wonderful.

I like Asiate during daylight hours.

PotenzaRon: Have you discovered menupages.com? You can find restaurants based on cuisine, location, meal, price, etc. When you find something that really catches your eye you could always come back here and ask for feedback.

HI Ron: River Cafe has very good food.

Per Se minimum food cost is $295 per person without tax and mandatory tip. Doubtful you can get a dinner reservation at this late date in any case.

You need to give more guidelines in order to get good recommendations. Price range, type of food, etc etc.

From your handle I would guess that you are not looking for Italian food in New York!

For the excellent food in a gorgeous and very "New York" space, I would recommend Eleven Madison Park. Gotham Bar and Grill would be a good, safe option; they just received three starts from the NY Times and, despite the name, are not at all a "bar and grill"type place.

Another place you might try is Ai Fiori, where one of the best chefs (Michael White) working in the city right now is at the helm.

Jean Georges is a personal favorite and they have an excellent deal at lunch: $32.

Tocqueville is excellent and Gotham never fails to satisfy.
