Ritz or Kapalua on Maui!!
We are going on second honeymoon and want beach abd golf..Which is the best Ritz Carlton or Kapalua Bay resort..Thanks for all the help!!

Four Seasons.

The Four Seasons in Wailea is the best. The weather in kapalua is unpredictable.

We just got back from Maui this morning. Stayed at the Kapalua Bay Hotel and loved every moment of it. Beautiful hotel and property. The weather was fantastic last week, no wind and no rain. May and June are the best months to be in Kapalua because the winds are not blowing so hard. Unpredictable weather? I disagree! It was very pleasant and the nice cool breeze that comes off the ocean was refreshing, especially when you're golfing. We found it too hot in Wailea, Makena and Kihei with no breeze.

Dear Tony.
Thanks for your reply. I was really getting nervous as I booked at the Kapalua and was getting some very mixed reviews. I thought the hotel looked beautiful and seemed to blend into the natural surroundings better than alot of others. I am glad you had a good time. Susan

Susan,
I loved Kapalua Bay, too - we were there for 5 days last year in August and are headed back for our honeymoon in September (although we are going to split our time between K.B. and the Four Seasons Wailea).

Kapalua Bay isn't as luxe but the property is really relaxing and we loved being a bit north of Kaanapali and Lahaina. Definitely have a "dinner" of appetizers and drinks in the lounge watching the sunset. Our best night there! The two days it was rainy-ish we just drove south for sun, but we had good weather the rest of the time. You made a great decision!

I've stayed at all 3--Ritz, Kap Bay and Four Seasons. Ritz is the best. Four Seasons is nice, but Wailea is too crowded and the beach does not compare to Kapalua Bay or Fleming Beach @ the Ritz. If you can swing it, concierge floor at the Ritz is one of the greatest lodging experiences anywhere. Also, Sansei sushi in Kapalua complex is the best sushi bar in the U.S.A.

I say The Ritz or Kapalua, you cant go wrong. We always stay at Napili Point and my walks are always around the Ritz and Kapalua, and the beach is wonderful at Flemings. Be sure to check out the caliber of room you are choosing though, some look so much better than others (different buildings). I love that area and have been going there for over 15 years. It is far better than the other areas.

Curious for Kevin or Robin to respond...Why do you feel it is necessary to post an answer completely unrelated to the question. They did not ask your opinion on the best hotel on the island just the Ritz or K Bay? Does this annoy anyone else as much as it does me?
|
I your area choice is the best, Kapalua. Wailea is a beach of rocks that waves come into explosively. Kapalua, and Napili are calm and quiet. Sensei is the best Sushi restarant I have been to. A wonderful pricey restaraunt is at the end of Napili beach. The Sea something or other. It has live entertainment, in a romantic classic island setting. Have a lava flow for me.
To Tony (who says that the weather is not unpredictable in Kapalua). It is not a matter of opinion. The weather in Kapalua may have been good during your week there, but the facts are that it tends to be wetter in the Kapalua area compared to more southerly locations and it can change very quickly. Every source that I have seen confirms this and it is also my personal experience.
