ritz in maui

Has anyone stayed at the Ritz in Maui? Any reviews? Pro's & Con's? I'm deciding between the Ritz and the Marriott for a few days for my honeymoon. Any help would be appreciated.

Which Marriott?

The Ritz in Maui is located in Kapalua away from the majority of the Hotel chains... the resort is set back from the ocean to honor ancient burial grounds and has a modest beach with chairs and a beachside restaurant...the emphasis is placed on the pool area with cabanas, multi level decks, huge elegant swimming area and a high level of service... the rooms are a notch above in both size and elegance and the entire facility has the resort/spa feel... If you are a spa type or want to be away from the crowds in a beautiful setting, consider the Ritz...

The Marriott is a huge resort complex right on the Ocean that features the expected Hawaiian experience... strong in their emphasis on the cultural, they are noted for the Luau show, although the buffet was nothing special... If you want the Mega Hotel experience with more access to water sports and action with beach crowds... choose the Marriott... either way have fun!!!

We could stay at either Marriott on Maui (using Marriott reward points). Have you stayed at any of them?

We stayed at the Renaissance Kapalua Bay Hotel (uses Marriott Points) in May. This is a beautiful, very peaceful place just down the street from the Ritz. The setting and the hotel were wonderful. Unfortunatly, Starwood Hotels badly wanted the property and paid a fortune for it.
They are tearing down this beautiful place in March and putting up Timeshares in it's place. They told us at the hotel, that the staff and repeat guests were stunned at the news.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat. If you do decide to stay there, make sure to do the Hula Lessons (free). You will not be disappointed!
