Ritz Carlton - New Orleans

Hi all. I'm visiting New Orleans later in August (I know, August...yuk), and plan to stay at the Ritz Carlton. There hasn't been too many updated reviews on Foders so I've been reading some other reviews on TripAdvisior. Over 80% of the recent reviews are very negative about this property and I'm now second-guessing my planned stay.
Can anyone provide me a review of their recent stay - positive or negative? The rate I have for my stay is a very low $107/night (AAA) for a std King room...so this is quite hard to pass up. THANKS!!!

At that rate, I wouldn't worry! The Ritz is fine.

There's nothing wrong with the Ritz-Carlton. Most people who comment negatively are usually talking about the fact that it isn't right in the French Quarter. Some have commented on service quality, but I think it's as good as anywhere else in New Orleans. The larger hotels seem to attract and hire a staff that develops a strange type of indifference to guests -- not bad enough to get the staff member fired, but perhaps bad enough that some guests will complain. But I agree that you can't beat that rate; take the Ritz-Carlton and stop worrying. Good luck.

My sweet husband kidnapped me in early December for one night at the Ritz (pre-Christmas chaos). The service was very special; the room was beautiful. Although it is on the edge of the Quarter on Canal Street, the walk was very easy. You will enjoy it and you got a great rate! (We also ate at Irene's that night for a very special meal - go early; no reservations.)

We just watched Samantha Brown's Travel Channel program on the Ritz Carlton, and it looks wonderful, much more intersting in décor than most of the other "name" hotels she's visited.

My husband and I have stayed there several times and it is extremely luxurious. I don't know why the reviews are negative. That is a wonderful hotel!! $107 a night?? WOW. GO FOR IT!!

The Ritz IS in the Quarter. WTF!?!? People seem to decide on their own what is and isn't this 300 yr old neighborhood, which runs from Canal to Esplanade, Rampart to the river!

We stayed at the Ritz a few years ago and it was wonderful!
Even the best hotels aren't able to satisfy 100% of their clients and I beleive that more people go out of their way to post a negative response than do those with a positive one.

I've never stayed at the Ritz but I've been to their spa on numerous occasions which is really top notch (FYI- residents get 20% off all spa prices during the week, and 25% during the week in the summer).

It's on Canal street and a short walk to Bourbon/FQ. I've read that you can get those great rates during the summer, August in particular. I would jump on the chance.
