Ritz Carlton Maui

Looking for some feedback on the Ritz Carlton in Maui.

What type of feedback are you looking for?

Much like other Ritzes as far as style, interior decor, etc (which draws criticism from some 'purists' who contend that traditional decor doesn't belong in tropical Hawaii).
Very nice layout, excellent service.
Only real downsides IMO are location (too far away from restaurants, shops, etc) and the weather in this location is windier, cooler and rainier on average than the resorts farther south. In fact the pool has a windscreen to protect bathers.
Oh yes, and the beach is quite a walk from the main traffic areas.
Lots of people love the seclusion and ambience. Just depends on what you're looking for.

Thanks for the feedback Jerald. I keep hearing about the bad weather in the Kapalua area. Is it bad enough that I should change my plans. Planning to visit in late July.

"Bad" in this case is certainly a relative term.
Relative to Phoenix in July, Kapalua is paradise. Relative to Minneapolis in winter, same.
What people are implying when they say the weather there is 'bad', is that it's not as warm as Kaanapali and Wailea, and it's windy. It can get very hot and still in late summer on Maui and some people actually find Kapalua somewhat refreshing.
My advice? If you're already locked into reservations, don't change.
If you'll be on the island more than 4 days, consider staying in both Kapalua and Kaanapali or Wailea to get a taste of both, so that when you return, you'll have a good idea of your own.

Unless you have to be in walking distance of shops, restaurants, town you'll be fine at the Ritz. You will be within a 10-15 drive of all those things anyway. If it rains in Kapalua in July, it will be refreshing and you want some wind, it helps keep things cool.

We stayed at the Ritz in late May '98 -- it rained everyday, and when it didn't rain, it was overcast -- the sky clears up about five minutes south of the hotel (towards Kaanapali Beach area). We didn't spend an inordinate amount of time at the hotel, but it was a bit of bummer to be driving back to the resort and go from sunshine to rain within a few miles.

We, too, were hesitant to stay at the Ritz in Kapalua last June after reading some of the comments about the weather in this forum. Almost changed our reservations. The weather was beautiful..if it did cloud up...it cleared late morning. We found the rooms, service and location excellent. Visited the Grand Wailea and would never stay there...it was like being in Disneyland...which is nice if that's what you're looking for. Go..you will love it!!
